My feet hurt.... and my back.... and my head and legs. I am sorry but Jhaco ain't got nothin" on The Office of long term care. The survey is going well, I had a flawless med pass with three observers up my butt:eek: . The surveyors are nice and complimentary and all but.....
ARGH ! I don't think I can stand 2 more days !!! They are making me crazy ! All of the staff is nuerotic and jumpy which in turn freaks the poor residents out.... it is just insane ! It's like healthcare on speed- you just run your butt off all day long getting this or that and jumping thru hoops and nothing is ever "done". Ok so it's like that all the time but MY GOD! Everyone has lost their ever-lovin' mind.
*sigh*
Thanks for listening- the dog does not understand:D

Shew ! I do feel for you. (((HUGS)))
Ours are coming in January and I do hope to be out in Az. again for 2 weeks during their expected arrival. I would be willing to take days off without pay just to avoid all that chaos ! :stone

I remeber the days of LTC liscensure very vividly if not fondly. It aleays seemed that if you had even just one bad resident they would pick those 3 days to act out. One year we had a woman who decided to run about nude. We had to keep up with her holding sheets around her to provide privacy! My heart is with you, good luck. This came to pass, not to stay.

You have my sympathies, friend. As the veteran of many LTC surveys, I can only say that I'd rather go through JCAHO ten times over, have teeth pulled without benefit of anesthesia, walk across hot coals, or sit through a Senate filibuster........ANYTHING but the annual torture festival known as the state licensing survey. And being in management meant long meetings with these people, being grilled on everything from what kind of soap was used to wash residents to how often they were seen by their doctors. I swear, they skulk around the building like so many cops gathering evidence to convict someone of a crime. I hated going through that every year, plus the return surveys where they checked to see if the deficiencies for which the facility was cited had been fixed. AAAAAARRRRRGH!! Still gives me nightmares..........sure glad I don't work in LTC anymore.
Thanks everyone and for the kind words and hugs and sympathy. I did not know how much I missed this place. great therapy. The chart nazis will be leaving Friday, and I have the weekend off:D . Next year, I demand that all staff be administered xanax prior to clocking in.
OMG Fullmoon- I will share your tale of the streaker and her right to privacy tommorow if you don't mind. I have three dementia/ reactive psycosis residents right now that are acting out something fierce. I think they sense the tension.

:*-( I'm a new nurse. Graduated this past July. Just started a job in LTC about 10 days ago.
It was mentioned today that the 30 day window is open for state to come in.
I do NOT want to be there for that. I am stressed enough being new!

No such luck here in WA...our regs require that all patient care/staff observations include night shift. Worse yet, 1 in every 3 (poss. 4) surveys have to be initiated on nights. Waking up the DON & Admin at 1 am with the words "the State just walked in" can feel kinds good sometimes.

Hee, hee, hee!
It's the same here in Oregon. Those people have been known to walk in at 3 AM on a Sunday noc shift, and you should see the wild scrambling of the management team to get their butts into gear! (I know, I was one of 'em.) Lord, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that anymore........

I am so @#$% glad that I am not administration any more. My facility they walked in at 4 am. We didn't know it until 6:30. Cause somehow no one saw them until diatary came in at 5 and then the nurse supervisor didn't believe the cook until she literally ran into them in the hall.
It may be kinda good calling and saying the state is here but it sure is an awful feeling when you hear "the states here and we don't know how long they have been here."
But yes every year your worst patient and/or (god forbid) family and/or (just fire them) employee will act up.
We had one resident who screamed through an entire review. Needless to say she got reviewed very closely. I think her screaming ( and I mean 24/7) was the only reason they left so quickly.:chuckle
It's been my experience that they pick the residents with the biggest issues, such as the ones who are brittle diabetics and those with behavior problems, to review. They also pick ones they reviewed during the previous year's visit, to see if things have improved. And of course, there will ALWAYS be some piece of documentation that hasn't been done, some intervention that hasn't been tried, and they jump all over you about it. Again, I say if I ever have to deal with a state survey again in this lifetime, it will still be too soon!
