Massachusetts is considering medical marijuana. I'm wondering how we in the Long Term Care world are going to deal with this. No smoking allowed in the building.no one allowed to smoke outside unsupervised. How in the world are we going to be able to manage this?

Marinol? (FYI - very expensive for Medicare part A residents. Would be much cheaper to go get it off the street corner)

Can you make tea out of it? Off to google...

I'm thinking if they have/get an order for it, then you may have to provide that supervised area outside for them to smoke it. Otherwise, i'm sure the Ombudsman would be called.

I'm not sure if going outside will really be achievable for all, like some pts may need to stay inside. What first came to mind was supervision - staff who may or may not want to accompany pts who smoke, like what will be their rights? And I am naïve, but what about second-hand smoke --- I'll bet there will be many volunteers to supervise if the smoke has that CERTAIN effect!!!

Marinol doesn't have the same effect as inhaled marijuana....of course I wouldn't know from first hand experience never having inhaled.....:roflmao:

I never used marinol. I much preferred a lozenge made from the essential oils.

In our LTC located in Colorado where MMJ is legal on the state level,we do not permit the (state) legal possession, consumption or self-medicating of MMJ on our non-smoking campus because we receive federal dollars through CMS,and marijuana still criminalized under federal law.
