Hi everybody,
Im new to this site and could really use some advice. Im starting LSU traditional BSN program. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about what to expect and what I should do to prepare. Also if anyone is actually a student at LSU that would help or if they are starting in the Fall as well.
I am also applying for the Spring 2011 semester. I applied to BRCC for the Fall 2010 semester, but I don't feel very confident about getting in (even though I have a 3.75 and got a 90 on the HESI). I haven't taken any of my general ed. classes there, and I've heard that's a big factor in their decision. Hopefully I get in, but if I don't then I will applying to LSU with you guys. Good luck to everyone.
I think you'll be fine. I know someone who applied to LSU with a 3.2 and 90's on her Hesi and just got her acceptance letter. The advisor in New Orleans told me that now if you have at least a 2.8 and do well on everything else you should get in. Does BRCC have a bsn program? I thought they only had an associates?
BRCC only has an associates. I have a lot of hours and I'm just trying to get finished. I plan on doing an online RN to BSN program if I get into BRCC. LSU has always been my first choice, but I am 30 with 2 small children so I just need to be finished as soon as possible. I figure it's win win b/c if I don't get into BRCC I'll have no choice but to go to LSU and I won't feel guilty about going for an extra year. Good luck!
pulled this of the ftp server from this past semester, that's where i found all the books needed for next semester. under current students is the link for the ftp site :)

reading. the required textbook is pathophysiology, 8e, by porth [color=#333333](isbn: 9781605473901).
We were told to save our money and buy the paperback one (ISBN: 9780781770873). Just an FYI for ya. The info actually came from everyone's favorite phys professor back before we started it in January :). I'd offer to sell mine but it's a book you're going to need beyond the class itself.
Hey everyone. I recently found this board and the information on here is excellent. I was wondering if I could ask some advice. I am about to mail in my application for the LSUHSC BSN program for Spring of 2011. I have a 3.8 GPA and my prereq GPA is about 3.86. I have an A in Biology and an A in Chemistry and the social sciences. However, I just took my HESI yesterday and I received dissapointing results. For one, I had no idea there would be a Anatomy and Physiology section on there and since I have never had the class i scored a 40 on that section. I also am just now signed up to take Microbiology for the summer school session, and I originally took Biology a year ago, so I scored a low 64 on the Biology section. All my other scores were high, mostly above 90, but the 40 in A&P and the 64 in Biology brought my Cumulative score down to a 79.
My question is, will this very badly effect my application, even with my good GPA? Should I consider retaking the HESI and am I even allowed to do that? Should I even send in the rest of my application now or should I wait to see if I can retake and improve my HESI?
Any input would be very well appreciated. Thanks! Good luck to all.
We took a different entrance test than you do now, but I scored very low on the biology part, like a 40! I e-mailed the student intake lady and she told me my scores were typical. If you're worried you could e-mail her (I'm not supposed to post her name)
Your GPA is really good too so that will help.
Keep in mind that they use the most recent score, so if you score worse next time that's the one they'll take.
I don't know how it is possible, but getting into LSU was one of the most stressful things I've ever done in my entire life! Good luck!
I was in a similar boat as you with a good prereq GPA, then an unsatisfactory score on some sections of the test and great on others. I desperately wanted to retake the test, however it was too close to the deadline and I was unable to do so, which led to much anxiety on my part, but I got in!
They are not expecting you to have a great score on anatomy and physiology, I'm with charliehopeful, call and ask for advice, and you will probably be pleasantly surprised. Sounds to me like you have a pretty good chance.
There is no way to accurately state an average HESI score for incoming LSU BSN students, because you are the first group of students to take this test and therefore there isn't a precedent. The only idea you could get would be if someone replies to your requests for their scores, and that will by no means reflect the average of all applicants. If you want to get an idea you might call student intake and try to get info from them, as was suggested in earlier posts.
Also, if you're trying to get people to actually post their scores and GPA, I doubt you'll get an answer if you don't post your own first
Try to not to stress too much y'all! :monkeydance:

Hey mdupri,
Congratulations on getting an interview!!! Im a pre-nursing student at LSU and I'm appliying for the spring of 2011 and I'm really nervous about the interview. Can you tell me anything like what to expect, what kind of questions they ask, or anything you wouldnt mind sharing. I'm not so much worried about my gpa, the HESI or the goal paper, its just that interview that makes me soo nervous! I wasnt worried about that until I attended the pre-nursing club meeting and an interview expert came and scared all of us there into preparing for it! lol If you have any advice for me I would really really appreciate it!
