Hi everybody,
Im new to this site and could really use some advice. Im starting LSU traditional BSN program. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about what to expect and what I should do to prepare. Also if anyone is actually a student at LSU that would help or if they are starting in the Fall as well.
The feeling will be there all semester. I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer but, you go in feeling unprepared and you come out feeling like you've been hit by a truck. You'll check your answers and feel even worse. I can't stress enough (this was the best advice I got): WAIT FOR THE FINAL SCORE ADJUSTMENT! I can't tell you how many tests I cried over before we saw the adjustment. Figure out his point system too, that helps. I felt like I was bombing all last semester and surprisingly ended up with a 'B' (and I actually failed one exam). The bonus points make a difference too. Write whatever you can on that essay, even if you feel like it's nonsense! He gave us points for days when people skipped class too - on anatomy exam days, a ton of people would skip phys, so he'd pass a roll and give points for being there. FYI!
I know this "advice" is too late, as you all are currently in the middle of the test, but just know that we've all been through the same thing and I don't know a single person who didn't feel this way.
Sending you good vibes! I'm sure by the time you're reading this, it will feel like a huge weight off your shoulders.

From your lips to Gawd's ears, dawlin'! :) You brought up another excellent point: DON'T SKIP ANY CLASSES! ANY! EVER! They pass roles, check off attendance sheets, give bonuses, whatever. I had 2 classes where I was on the cusp and those mystery points put me up a letter grade. If you think you'll miss just one class because you need the study time, then sit in the back of the classroom instead and review notes but NEVER, EVER miss a class.
We used to have test review sessions on the following Tuesday afternoon. Y'all still have those scheduled? There you will get an idea of what's being thrown out, etc. There will be nothing official to tell you what the actual curve is. I'll tell you now, it's very much flying blind.
The adjusted scores were eventually posted on Moodle next to the score you actually got. If I remember correctly, they didn't get around to posting that until halfway through the semester. I was running on pure hope until those were up. I hope things will be different for you guys.
Whatever you do, don't let it defeat you! I saw too many people give up too soon. I likened it to the old image of a prisoner chipping away at a rock with an ice pick: you really feel like you're getting nowhere until things come together at the end of the semester.
One thing that really impressed me was the support that the class ahead of us offered our class. Cpkrn2b2011 is dead on with the 'good vibes' - you've got a great support system there for you so don't be afraid to use it. Otherwise, Physiology will drive you to drink (or worse).
CPK, I've been laying low and stalking y'all over on Facebook - you C9ers seem to have your hands full. And throwing a winning Superbowl celebration and Mardi Gras in the mix was just plain rude! :) I just cleaned my desk and tossed out all of my Physiology & Anatomy notes. It was about 4 reams of paper! Somewhere, a forest is cursing me. But at least I was using recycled paper...
Hey everyone! So i'm applying for LSU nursing in the spring of 2011 for the fall of 2011. I am done all my pre reqs except for chem which i am taking in the summer. I have to retake bio&math in the fall then i am applying. Oh yeah and i am out of state!! A few questions for application..
1) do we take the HESI or the NET?
2) Does everyone that applies have to do the goal paper AND have the meeting?
3) If I apply and do not get in, but apply again the next semester, does my application information roll over or do I have to rewrite a new goal statement paper?
These answers would be very helpful!! Hope everyone had an AMAZING Easter :) God Bless!
I went to my interview today and I am feeling VERY anxious! How long should I wait until I receive a responses on my admissions?? Has anyone gone through this interview process? From what I hear it is an email then a letter how does this work?
nola-you will take the HESI, which is an online based test that last for 4 hours straight. The subjects include Anatomy,Chemistry, English, Vocabulary, Reading,Biology, and Math. Everyone sends a goal paper along with their application form and if you qualify you will go through an interview. I think (not positive) if you don't get in the first try you will have 1 semester to try again using the same application.
You guys are the first to go through the interview process! seems like just one more nerve-wracking step.
They let us know (for Spring 2010 admission) right around a month before the end of the semester - so early nov. And from old posts they let Fall 2009 know at the beginning of April... but now that they've added the interview it is hard to say.
I know I said this earlier - but I didn't get an e-mail at all, I only heard from the other girls at Delgado that they had gotten theirs, I nearly flipped thinking that I hadn't gotten in (they apparently notify the ones that don't get in last) but it turns out they had just messed up my e-mail. So don't freak out! Don't panic! (I know that's impossible to do)
I think if you have the inclination to visit these posts, it prolly means you are dedicated and serious and I bet you'll get in!! let us know! good luck

Charlie, thank you so much for responding! I am so happy I found this site and that LSU students were on it. I'm not applying for another 8 months and I'm already going crazy trying to make sure I get accepted. But good luck with your first semester and God bless!!
