LSU BSN

Published

Hi everybody,

Im new to this site and could really use some advice. Im starting LSU traditional BSN program. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about what to expect and what I should do to prepare. Also if anyone is actually a student at LSU that would help or if they are starting in the Fall as well.

I know this sounds completely insane but I am kind of missing school already. Has anyone taken their CPR or drug test yet? Which CPR class do we need?

I have a question regarding one of LSU's A&P lab exercises. A very good friend of mine graduated from LSU SON in 2003. She told me that in one of her labs a live (but heavily sedated) dog was used to preform various procedures; is this true, and if it is do they still do this? She told me that you were able to opt out of the exercise, but if you chose to do so you would receive a zero for your grade.

That stopped with Hurricane Katrina (according to one of the instructors). They no longer have the resources at this time to do that to animals.

not sure if that is true or not, but that is not something you will be encountering! In the lab portion of anatomy, you will be working with human cadavers and this is not something you can opt out of unless you have already taken anatomy at a previous school. The lab was harder for some students to deal with initially, but it was a very gratifying experience. The way I entered into it was thinking that their soul has gone to another place, their body was just a vessel that was used to get around earth in. (don't know if that makes sense to anybody else, but that's how I got through it). By the way, i'm sure many things have changed since 2003 :)

Hi Rebecca, it was something that was done in one of the physiology labs.

Thank you both for responding. I am excited about the cadaver lab; it doesn't gross me out or give me the willies. My bosses mom died from leukemia, and she donated her body to science for research. I think it's amazing that she chose to do that. I don't think i would have been able to handle the dog. As interesting as I'm sure it is, I just don't think I would have been able to do it. Thank you both.

Well in that case our phys labs were all lecture style with only two being interactive, the ECG and lung lab.

As I understood him, one of the labs that was lecture only was a replacement for the "dog lab." The way he described it to me it was done to show blood flow and ejection fraction from the heart.

How long does it usually take to hear back from the school after sending in the application? I sent my application in for the 2011 Spring semester about 4 weeks ago..Just curious.

The website says 4 weeks after the admissions examination. I'm guessing it means four weeks after the admissions deadline?????

Our application deadline was the beginning of September (2009, to start Spring 2010) and we did not hear back until the middle of November. I think you are going to have a long wait.... sorry

I went to my interview today and I am feeling VERY anxious! How long should I wait until I receive a responses on my admissions?? Has anyone gone through this interview process? From what I hear it is an email then a letter how does this work?

nola-you will take the HESI, which is an online based test that last for 4 hours straight. The subjects include Anatomy,Chemistry, English, Vocabulary, Reading,Biology, and Math. Everyone sends a goal paper along with their application form and if you qualify you will go through an interview. I think (not positive) if you don't get in the first try you will have 1 semester to try again using the same application.

Hey Mdupri or anyone who has taken the Hesi within the last few months, is there a physics section on the Hesi and if so do they provide a formula sheet?
