LPN's in dr offices

Published

Specializes in cardiology.

I've been a nurse for 2yrs. I've worked a peds office, medsurg at the hospital, LTC as well as pvt duty home health. My fav places was the dr office and pvt duty. I also loved my clincals as school nurse. I have ADD/anxiety and I hate admitting that. But it got the best of me while working at the hospital and I had to leave. I work for a cardiologist doc office and I LOVE it. The dr is really grt. Not the typical dr attitude at all. There's 4 of us in the office. No drama. We are there for each other. The office manager (an LPN 20+yrs) and the doc will triage pts if needed. It was what I really needed after leaving the hospital. I hated my mental issues got in the way. And just because I work a doc office doesn't mean I don't do anything.

We do stress test, which I have to place IVs, echos, ABIs, INR finger sticks, make medication calls and answer pt questions. Working at the LTC and the hospital has really helped out in this position.

Am I alone in my quest?

I used to work at a small family practice. It was alright. I prefer where I am at now better, which is assisted living. It pays more and I feel like an actual nurse.

At the Dr.'s office, I did many cool things like you said. I did phlebotomy, which I absolutely loved and miss greatly. EKG's, holter monitors, lab work, injections, etc. etc.

I got some good experience, but they just did not pay enough at all and the medical assistants were getting payed just as much as the LPN's and doing the exact same things. If I wanted to work there, I should have just saved some time and money and went to the medical assistant program.

I'm sure a specialty office is a little different and good for you if that is what works for you! We are all different. The day hours and no holidays were great as well.

I worked in FP at a university teaching hospital and it was great, I also work for an FP in private practice not so great, I worked peds for Kaiser and that was a good job, they treat their LPN's pretty good.

I work at a neurologist's office. its fun but my goal is to work in a hospital. but lpn's are being phased out where i live

I love the dr.s office where I work, the pay is lower, but we are like a family and I love knowing my patients.
