Dear God, Help me
This makes me laugh! I am a charge nurse on a dementia unit. Out of our 28 patients, only two call out repetatively. The one is a female patient on hospice who is practically bed bound now. All day..."Help me honey! Help me up. Put me to bed. Help me up!"......while she is in bed. 85 lb woman who Ativan and oxycodone sometimes does the trick for a little while. But only for a short period of time. Next is a male patient who will count repetatively and he misses numbers. It's cute, but he annoys the other residents sometimes lol. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11" "1, 2, 3, 4......." Gotta love dementia! Takes a special person to be able to tolerate it.

Moo.. No it is not the one in York. It's a Lancaster office. 18/hr isn't bad at all..I could deal. Especially with no eve's weekends and holidays :)

LPN at Urological Center
Hello!! I have an interview tomorrow at a Urological group..LPN position. Any ideas on the rate of pay? I wish I could have just asked via phone before setting up the interview, but I know that would have not been proper, but I hate to waste anyone's time. Sadly..the amount of money made is a big factor for many now a days. I worked at a regular doctor's office before and made only 12/hr. I was thinking that a specialist would be a little more. Any insight? Thanks alot!

Never driving to work in snow again
Snow sucks. I feel ya. I have a 45 min. drive to work and I had to travel in the recent snow. I have all wheel drive, though. We always have the option to stay in the facility overnight. I work in Assisted Living. We MUST make it to work regardless of the snow. They threaten our jobs if we try to call out due to snow. Don't know if they really could fire us or not...

Any other LPN's find LTC too much to deal with?
Kitchen work? Mopping floors? What the heck? At my AL facility, I help hand out the meals if I have some spare time, but in no way shape or form do I have to do housekeeping work or anything like that. That's crazy. Out of school I worked at a doctor's office and was paid 12/hour. Then went to the AL I am at now. Never working skilled, I feel as though I lost the skills I learned in school and feel like I wouldn't be able to do it. Sometimes, I think about it though for the extra money. Then I think about all the added stress and I change my mind. You'll find something :)

Darylin: Why don't you try Assisted Living. Pay is def. not as good as skilled, but its more than say a doctor's office... That is where I work and I am pretty content. I am always busy being charge nurse of the Alzheimer's unit, but I feel like I have the time to "do it right" and spend some one on one time with my resident's. We can't lose the good nurses

depressed lpn working in home health
Hello. You will not lose your license just by quitting a job. Are you a new nurse? Or just new to Home Health? What makes you so nervous? Are the type of patients you see too difficult or need skilled care that you do not feel comfortable giving? If so, that is okay. You should talk to the home health company you work with about how you are feeling because your health is more important. Good luck

You're right, bigtim. It should be as easy as that, but the problem is...for some people it's not. The LPN Vs. RN issue is always there. A lot of LPN's feel inferior. But, with that being said...we can all go on to become RN's if we feel that way. But then will we have the same problem?? "Oh so you're an RN. Are you going to become a NP?" Who knows. I am in no way shape or form complaining. I can go back to school. I am just too lazy to do it right now. Someday maybe...

You are so right. We should be proud of ourselves. I know I am guilty of whenever someone asks me what I do...I say, "Oh, I am an lpn, but planning on going back to school to be an RN soon." I don't even know if that's true. I should stop saying that. It's ******** that I feel like I have to say that. I'm in rant mode now...I will stop while I still can :) Edit: Didn't know I couldn't say bull crap on here. lol

New LVN concerned about Code and STAT response.
Wow. Your facility should have taught you that in the training process. Shame on them. I'm not sure how to answer your question because I work assisted living and I'm sure every facility is different. Emergency situations are always stressful and I still always get nervous in them. Make sure you go over your questions with your supervisor.

LPN's in dr offices
I used to work at a small family practice. It was alright. I prefer where I am at now better, which is assisted living. It pays more and I feel like an actual nurse. At the Dr.'s office, I did many cool things like you said. I did phlebotomy, which I absolutely loved and miss greatly. EKG's, holter monitors, lab work, injections, etc. etc. I got some good experience, but they just did not pay enough at all and the medical assistants were getting payed just as much as the LPN's and doing the exact same things. If I wanted to work there, I should have just saved some time and money and went to the medical assistant program. I'm sure a specialty office is a little different and good for you if that is what works for you! We are all different. The day hours and no holidays were great as well.

Hair question for the veterans :)
When I was in school, as long as you wore your hair up in a loop like pony tail and you didn't have bangs in your face, you were okay. I did not do the ballerina bun. That is how I did mine. Made a ponytail, but looped it so it tucked under into the band. They were fine with it. We just couldn't look sloppy.
