  1. Dear God, Help me

This makes me laugh! I am a charge nurse on a dementia unit. Out of our 28 patients, only two call out repetatively. The one is a female patient on hospice who is practically bed bound now. All day..."Help me honey! Help me up. Put me to bed. Help me...
  2. LPN at Urological Center

Moo.. No it is not the one in York. It's a Lancaster office. 18/hr isn't bad at all..I could deal. Especially with no eve's weekends and holidays :)
  3. LPN at Urological Center

Hello!! I have an interview tomorrow at a Urological group..LPN position. Any ideas on the rate of pay? I wish I could have just asked via phone before setting up the interview, but I know that would have not been proper, but I hate to waste anyone's...
  4. Never driving to work in snow again

Snow sucks. I feel ya. I have a 45 min. drive to work and I had to travel in the recent snow. I have all wheel drive, though. We always have the option to stay in the facility overnight. I work in Assisted Living. We MUST make it to work regardless ...
  5. Any other LPN's find LTC too much to deal with?

Kitchen work? Mopping floors? What the heck? At my AL facility, I help hand out the meals if I have some spare time, but in no way shape or form do I have to do housekeeping work or anything like that. That's crazy. Out of school I worked at a doctor...
  6. Any other LPN's find LTC too much to deal with?

Darylin: Why don't you try Assisted Living. Pay is def. not as good as skilled, but its more than say a doctor's office... That is where I work and I am pretty content. I am always busy being charge nurse of the Alzheimer's unit, but I feel like I ha...
  7. 2010 LPN/LVN hourly wage

Pennsylvania 18.50/hr first shift e/o weekend Assisted Living
  8. New Grad LVN found AWESOME JOB!

Wow. I'm jealous. That sounds amazing!!!
  9. LVN and dang proud!

Oh of course, nursel56. I wouldn't do it for any other reason.
  10. depressed lpn working in home health

Hello. You will not lose your license just by quitting a job. Are you a new nurse? Or just new to Home Health? What makes you so nervous? Are the type of patients you see too difficult or need skilled care that you do not feel comfortable giving? If ...
  11. LVN and dang proud!

You're right, bigtim. It should be as easy as that, but the problem is...for some people it's not. The LPN Vs. RN issue is always there. A lot of LPN's feel inferior. But, with that being said...we can all go on to become RN's if we feel that way. Bu...
  12. LVN and dang proud!

You are so right. We should be proud of ourselves. I know I am guilty of whenever someone asks me what I do...I say, "Oh, I am an lpn, but planning on going back to school to be an RN soon." I don't even know if that's true. I should stop saying that...
  13. New LVN concerned about Code and STAT response.

Wow. Your facility should have taught you that in the training process. Shame on them. I'm not sure how to answer your question because I work assisted living and I'm sure every facility is different. Emergency situations are always stressful and I s...
  14. LPN's in dr offices

I used to work at a small family practice. It was alright. I prefer where I am at now better, which is assisted living. It pays more and I feel like an actual nurse. At the Dr.'s office, I did many cool things like you said. I did phlebotomy, which I...
  15. Hair question for the veterans :)

When I was in school, as long as you wore your hair up in a loop like pony tail and you didn't have bangs in your face, you were okay. I did not do the ballerina bun. That is how I did mine. Made a ponytail, but looped it so it tucked under into the ...
  16. Any other LPN's find LTC too much to deal with?

This is why I like working in assisted living. They do not pay as much, but most of the time I have some downtime to finish up paperwork, check on the PCA's, take a good look at the residents, etc. etc. I give major props to you nurses who work in sk...
  17. OR experience?

What state are you in shechose? I guess it varies greatly on your location, but where I am in PA, barely any hospitals hire LPN's at all.
  18. Where was your first LPN job????

My first job was at a doctor's office. I am in PA. It was good hours, bad pay. I agree with the previous poster who said if you are offered a job that you think you may not like, just try it. Jobs are hard to come by as it is and you can always quit....
  19. OR experience?

I don't know why LPN programs tease us by taking us into the OR and other places that LPN's really aren't hired to work. It least in my area, I know that LPN's can't do OR work, barely any hospitals accept LPNS...some post day surgery units maybe...
  20. took nclex yesterday...

Don't get yourself all worked up about it. I didn't feel 100% confident, either. I passed the first time. I don't remember how many questions I had. I think 110-115 and I am pretty sure I got the last question before it shut off wrong. I really don't...
  21. LPN mistake??

Thanks, Angel. Yes, I am very thankful for what I have already, but you are right about the more money...more bills. I am a little weary of online programs. I don't know if I would do as well as if I was sitting in a class. Kind of like working out.....
  22. LPN mistake??

I wish I would have went straight for RN. The reasons I didn't was because I wasn't sure I was going to like nursing to begin with and I wanted a short program. Both good reasons to go through LPN program. BUT... Once I got a decent paying LPN gig, I...
  23. I have a few questions for all you LPNs out there

    1. what was your favorite class in nursing school and why? i liked the pysch. classes. i thought it was interesting to learn about mental illnesses. 2. what was your worst class and what tools did you use to help you pass? i strongly disliked...
  24. What was your LPN starting salary????

That was a skilled nursing facility in Columbia, actually. It had a very bad reputation. I read an article in the Lancaster newspaper about the best and worst in the area and that nursing home was the worst rated. That was a factor as well.
  25. How to find a Dr's office job

Ginger, Yes. They taught me phlebotomy at the office. I loved it! At a dr.'s office, you shouldn't need any other special training for it.
