This thread is for those who is about to start LPN program. It will be great if we keep each other posted on our excited journey, share the experience and maybe answer questions that others will have about the program.

So, i guess i start. On July 11 i will be starting 11 months long program at one of the local technical schools. My mandatory orientation is on June 10 where, according to letter that I received, we will be given our first homework (a month before the actual course starts!!!). I am 31 y.o married and have a 3 y.o son. I work as a CNA and I will continue working p.t during the program. I am very nervous because I haven't take any science classes since high school. English is my second language but that will not be a problem. I chose the LPN path because I love to work at the patience bedside, i can earn decent money and gain more hands on experience. I am planing to further my education after becoming LPN.

I am wishing everyone who is about to start or just started good luck! Lets do it together

Hi floaty flowers. I am going to putnam northern westchester boces. Wow two kids. Good luck. I am super nervous.

Nursing orientation tomorrow. Don't know what to expect. I have a question tho. Should I rent my books or buy them? Because renting comes online till dec. Don't know if it goes like regular college classes. Any recommendations?

Kshamab113, (1) you can do anything...you're a mother, which means YOU ARE SUPERWOMAN to your child. Stay positive and you can do anything you put your mind to. (2) Two of my books we are using for more than one semester, so I am going to buy those because the rental price for two semester is more than buying those books. And I got used books for the other 5 books. I am not renting, because I have a 1 & 1/2 year old and while she doesn't usually touch my books...this will be the time she does. LOL!

*wipes forehead* I started school on Monday and man!! It's really exciting but really REALLY fast paced!!! I'm trying my best to stay ahead. Having CNA, pct or some form of patient care certification was required for my program so we all got checked off on those basic skills (ADLs) today. We started injections today and will start NG tubes and Enemas next week. I have lecture and lab for fundamentals and Pharmacology for this first 7 weeks. Lab: Monday- learn new skill, Tuesday-practice new skill, Wednesday- skill check offs (when we have to perform the entire procedure correctly. Pass or fail. We get two tries only!!) Thursday- finish check offs and do dosage calculations. Lecture: everyday. My Pharmacology is online. I am very overwhelmed already and it's only day 3. Just wondering how I'm going to retain so much information. But I'm also excited.

Wow we had oreint on Mon tue we did cna check offs wed we did a library tour and started dosage calculations. Off Thurs Friday is lecture and work :/. I will make it though our dosage calculations test starts Oct. We have three tries. Have to have 78 or higher to pass. 78 or higher to pass nursing 101. We can be cna 2 after 101 is finished. They told us we will have 2 clinical days in 102 and another dosage test in 102 and 103. Keep the faith everyone.

Oh yeah and its fun we are becoming nurses!!! :roflmao:

We have to have a 90 or higher to pass our pharmacology test!!! And 78 to pass all other classes. 77 is an F.

I am two months into my LPN program. I have an 8 year old daughter and an almost 4 year old. I feel like I don't get to spend anytime with them, however, I have A's and B's. I'm excited for everyone else going through the same classes and good luck to everybody!!

Your program sounds a lot harder than mine. Good luck to you!!!

I get that as well. This way worked best for because of financial reasons. Dont explain your position to anyone. This is a new and exciting experience, you shouldnt be robbed of your excitement because of the choice you made. Good luck in nursing school.;)

I didn't read through all of the comments, but I start an 18 month LPN program in October. It's evenings and weekends, which is why it's so long. We have 5 little kids, (7,5,4, and 2 year old twins), so I think stretching it out will help me! I just turned 27, I stopped going to school when we got pregnant with our first child so my husband could finish school- he has a degree in Computer Engineering and is a Captain in the USAF.

Anyway- I've stayed home and raised our children, and we just PCS'd to Ohio. With a school that offers evening classes so we can avoid daycare it's the perfect time for me to go back. I'm SO excited, yet SO nervous. I do plan on completing my RN and going for my BSN after....but let's take it one step at a time. :)

I start my lpn program november 3rd. Monday-Friday 6pm-11pm. Ill be doing this while working 32 hours in a medical office. Im can't begin to tell you guys how happy I am but also nervous and kind of doubting myself. I know I can complete the program, but im a single mom of a teenager and I worry about time away from her and more worried about when clinicals start will my job have a problem with me leaving early two days a week. Clinical hours will be 3-11. I took an cna class but not yet certified because I choose to jump right into lpn school. I think I should get certified first just in case my job gives me problems so ill have an backup plan. Any advice is appreciated

Thanks for sharing everyone, I really love this thread!!
