LPN Starting Salary

I think it depends mostly on the facility. As a new grad I was hired as per diem to start off. I made $21.01 an hour and was getting almost a full time schedule, which was great!!!! I did than take the part time position because there were other per diem nurses coming aboard and did not want my hours taken off of me, which they were anyway because facilities look at the dollar amount not the residents safety.
I now make $17.85 an hour. I am in the proccess of hopefully getting a different job making between 18 and 19 an hour.

I agree with you, it all depends on whom hires you. I am investigating this myself. I am in the process of enrolling to become an LPN. It is a one year diploma program in Southern Wisconsin. I would like to work in Home Care, in Hospice. I was told by the administrator for an LPN.. just getting out of school, they hire you at $18.00 and hour. "Not Too Shabby". They had the utmost respect for the LPN profession, unlike the hospitals that I contacted that looked down on them to me. Even.. one school won't even have an LPN program, making me think... they think less of LPNs. In my opinion a nurse is a nurse. CNA, LPN, RN... I doubt God catagorizes us like society and hospitals are trying to do. Best Of Luck. :up:

depending on the state...my cousin is an LPN in New York ans she gets $22.50 per hr (nursing home)...on private jobs she garners $25.00 per hr

I just got hired for my first job @ $24/hr, it's a union facility. If I had taken the job at a private home it would have been $27 but they wanted me to jump through one too many hoops.

Think it is where you live, size of the facility, nusing home or hospital, Physician's office etc. I've been working for over 35 years and making 17.50 and I have a BS in Health services in 2000 but I didn't want to be administration in Nursing homes because I'd rather work with the residents instead of soing what the cooperation told me I could or could not do and what I had to tell the resident they would have to PAY is they needed some special care like ( reminding them to bath) etc,etc,etc. I received a BS in Health Services. I took the Nursing Home administration exam and passed but really just wanted to continue taking care of residents. The further education was more for me as I was55 years old and the old body was giving out so I thought I could at least keep my mind actiive for a while longer. I didn't want the nusing home cooperation telling I had to charge a resident because I had to reminf her to bathe etc, etc,etc!!! So I continued nursing and glad I did. I retired 1 week ago at the age of 64 1/2 and would like to do one on one for awhile. I'm going to enjoy a few months at home first tho. My husband is also retired so we'd like to do a little traveling etc. Gennavieve

Recently an Assisted Care facility!! Assisted is a relative notion where they are concerned, We have residents who do almost everything for themselves and MANY others who are almost full care, many others need to be escorted to meals, help with tolieting etc......so Assisted isn't truly accurate. This is in Indiana, also the same problem in Michigan when we lived in that area. In larger cities, chicago, Detroit etc,etc, salary will be more from what I have seen and been told,

At this point in my life it wasn't the money as much as the insurance since my husband had retired 6 months ago and I have 9 months to fo before retirement but did it anyway ( retired) because of health but mostly not being able to give the care I wanted to give as the working conditions were so bad. What type of care can you give to 45 resisdents with only 1 CNA and you on duty???

Good luck to you. I am planning on doing one on one care after a brief hiatus, because no matter what I love nursing. I've always felt the residents gave to me more than I to them...they don't feel that way I am told but if you give your all you receive something back...not materila but spiritual. When I worked in the boonies of Northern Michigan, I made 15.40. Another LPN that had been a nurse for 23 years and worked at that particular facility for over 10 yrs was making 15.70. That's right... $0.30 more per hour. That's ridiculous.
Now, I work in a metro area for $24.50. It's one of the highest paid areas in the state, though. But the facility is #2 in the state. So... it really varies on where you are geographically.

this is an old post, but I am just looking for LPN jobs and surprised that they are starting at 23 or so an hour. I live in a rural area a few hundred miles from NYC and Boston.

I am a new LPN grad, and I had my first interview today at a local hospital in the transitional care unit. New Grad hire rate is base pay;$15.75 +$2 shift differential. 3rd shift is +$2.60 diff.

not much for educating yourself. I was making more $ before I went to school

what state are you in? The ofered salary seem awfully low...I amin New york and the startting salary at a minimum is atleast $21.00 and more on long island
