Nursing school is so amazing. I love all the opportunities Ive encountered so far. I can not believe that I am on spring break already, and that I am already half way through this semester! I am taking fundamentals of nursing and pharmacology right now. Clinical is boring most times. I have had the chance to follow my patient to the OR twice. Now, that is an AMAZING experience. My first time to the OR I watched my patient get her gallbladder removed. I was able to see inside the body and see different organs. I thought before I went in that I wouldn't be able to handle it, and possible faint. But my oh my, I was so cool. and yes, surgeons do listen to loud music and dance during procedures, just like in greys anatomy haha.
It is hard though. I got a 71 on my last pharm test, which by nursing school standards is failing. It was my first bad grade. I defiantly did not prepare like I should have, and wont make that mistake again.
My program is only 12 months long. So God willing I will graduate in December.
I also bought a ton of stuff for school. I thought maybe I was over-doing it, but I actually use EVERYTHING I purchased. I got a dry erase board, which I use weekly for dosage calculation practice. Its much nicer using it compared to pencil and paper. I also got a NANDA book, which I use a lot for nursing diagnosis' and concept mapping.
It is tough but not impossible. I work full time and have a 3 year old little boy and getting good grades and getting my assignments in on time always feels like such an accomplishment.
Anyways. I am excited and I hope everyone else who has started recently is doing well and is staying focused.
Until next time,
:)

Reading this post inspired me. I really want to start lpn school later this year but was a bit skeptical because I would have a new baby but you truly help me make a decision. I'm happy to hear that it's possible. Thanks!

I can so relate and if anyone can give a nursing student a pat on the bad its a fellow nursing student. I am in my second semester (out of 3) and can not wait until I pass everything. Being a mommy, working, getting above an 80 in all of our nursing classes is hard but somebody has to do it right? I'm sending big virtual hugs out to everyone on our journey and those that are on their way.
(My issue was Med-Surg, but I am doing better now. Pharm is intense, but being a pharmacy technician at a hospital I had a little help)

WOW! You are an inspiration to me, great job momma! You will cherish your license so much because of how you worked so hard to achieve it. God bless you and keep up the good work
Im really happy to have inspired you guys. I would reply to all of you but its really hard to sit down and find time to do it. Pharacology is kicking my butt! Its tough, I feel like im not going to make it through the class but im passing, three more tests until finals which is in exactly 1 MONTH. I cant believe how fast its going by!
