LPN Salary & Info

Published

Hello,

Can someone provide a salary range for LPN's? Also, are I heard that hospitals are not hiring LPN's as they use to. Is this true?

The answer to both questions is going to depend on where you're located.

I live in New York.

I live in CT. Yale does not hire LPN's. St. Raphael's does but I hear they don't pay very well. Where I work now, LTC/Rehab. the starting pay for LPN's, right out of school is $25. per hour!!! The average in LTC is about $19. per hour. Hope this info. helps :)

Can you be a little more specific as to area, salaries vary widely in the state, even for RNs.

Not sure about up north or down south.. anyone have a ball park for the Tampa, FL area? Sorry to barge in on your post but I'm in the same boat.

I hear anywhere from $14-$22 down here and that's a HUGE gap.. I love nursing and I'd like to have an idea going into an interview of what to push for... I've tried salary.com and it's not accurate for my previous career or my husbands so I don't want to rely on that. I would imagine that Conn. has a higher wage because the cost of living is higher than here..

I left LTC in CT two years ago as a salaried RN with 20 years and made about $28/hr; that was after nagging my boss for five months to give me a raise. Four years ago I was making $25/hr as a unit manager, hourly, in LTC. Nice to see they're paying brand new LPNs $3/hr less than an RN with 20 years. :angryfire

Not begrudging anyone their money but wondering why I always get the fuzzy end of the lollipop...

I'm gonna start calling you tuna--cuz you are on a roll!

To the OP: Here on long island, very few hospitals are hiring lpns. As an agency nurse I made $22/hr LTC starting, after about 6 mos exp. (and a lot of smooth talking) I was making $25/hr. Among my peers, it seems to range from $20-$28 (but the high end is with 5-10 yrs exp. in the same facility).

I live in Long Island. Do you guys think it is worth becoming an LPN if they are not hiring them as much?

I am an LPN student in the Corning/Lindley area of New York. I guess pay rate depends on the areas that you live in. Here they hire you to work in hospitals, doctors offices ect. Good luck on finding more information.

Specializes in M/S, home health, LTC, rehab/orth.

If you go to salary.com you can put in your area and field and it will tell you what other LPNs in your area are making. HTH. Tonya
