lvn to rn programs where should i go

I just recently finished an lvn program in southern cali. I would love to get my rn but the community colleges pre-reqs are to long and so is the waiting list Im 23 and Im on a time limit. Is there any lvn-rn program through private schools or even an online program ( One that's reputible) .I would love your input. Thanks alot!:nurse:

Check out the Distance Learning Forum, there is discussion there about many programs that are available.

University of Phoenix offers a bridge program, they have an on-line program, as well as classroom facilities, if you want that route.

Hi there.

I have been looking onto a LVN-RN program (aslo in CA) - but I am still in LVN school. I am not positive, but it seems that CA restricts online programs. You can check w/ the community colleges to see if they have the 30 unit option or advanced placement. A good source to look at is the CA Board of Nursing. They have a list of schools with the symobol (!) to indicate LVN -RN program.

Hi I live in Northern California in the San Francisco Bay area and actually there are quite a few vocational schools (private schools) that have the lvn-rn program where you will receive your ADN where some programs are even less than 2 years, some fulltime, and some part-time, even weekends. Although they are costly, some schools have financial aid. I am also 23 with 2 kids and on a time limit so I will be choosing this path.

Seems to me I used to get some information in the mail advertising online programs?...Also, some programs where you test for courses through the mail and then have to go to designated test sites to test out on your skills?...Anyone else familiar w/this?...Might have been through University of New York or Phoenix or some place like that....Anyone w/ideas on the costs and/or if these really are reputible programs...Thanks...

Yes it is Excelsior college in albany NY. Just started nursing concepts 1 and hoping someone here has gone through this program. It is self paced and when you are ready you go and test, you have a weekend long clinical at the end. I know Colorado requires more clinicals though. They have several programs that provide more study materials like Rue and college network. I called the NM state board and they except it.

Azusa Pacific University, located in Azusa, has an LVN-to-RN 30 unit option.

I have questions about where to go for LVN programs in San Jose area, I am new to this site and I'm anxious to know everything about LVN program from people who's been there. I know this site is for nurses, and I'm just a CNA, but would like as much feedback as possible. I waited so long to get into the ADN (over 4 yrs.) and now I feel like I need to look for other options. Thanx

There are no longer any licensed schools in california that do online LVN to RN. California has barred them.

In southern california, the Private LVN to RN schools include:

Asuza Pacific

Mount saint marys

Loma Linda University

Maric College In san diego.

I think that's it. I live in southern california too and have looked around ALOT.

I'm currently finishing my last class to go to RN school...so now it doesn't matter.

I have some reservations about Excelsior College, but i'd love to hear how they regard the prerequisite and GE requirements. How long did it take you, and how much was the program entirely? Thanks jtl767

No CAL hasnt banned LVN-RN programs .. there are still plenty. Of course I havent researched lately because Ive been finishing my LVN program but I know for sure LMC offers a 30 unit or the ADN route. Also I think Napa as well as Chabot. And of course theres always Unitek if someone wants to pay that ungodly amount of cash .. either way, they arent banned just google it .. you will find plenty just make sure they are board approved and be careful of the online route.. many of them make you find your own clinicals... and think how hard thats gonna be!! dont set yourself up for disappointment .... really I cant wait to get my Rn .. only a few mths past my LVN and then I wont have to worry about this subject anymore but always here to help ... good luck !
