Can I work without a physical license?

i found out i passed my nclex-pn this morning. i called my board of nursing (new jersey) and they said it would take 2-3 weeks to receive my actual license. she did however, gave me my license number, issue date, and expiration date.

i already have a job line up and i know i will get it 100% but would they let me work with just my license info? they can verify it anyway. then give them a copy of my license once i get them in the mail or should i just be patient and wait for my actual license before applying for jobs???

you can call the places you want to apply and ask them , usually they don't let you apply until you have a license number they can check on.

I'm in a different state, but I haven't been asked to produce my physical license in years -- the trend for a long time has been to do the on-line verification. My state and some others are no longer even issuing physical licenses; it's all electronic now.

the person i spoke from the board gave me my license number, issue date, and expiration date.

yeah maybe i should just call them. i am just so excited to start working as a nurse already. :D

oh wow maybe i should just call the board (nj) myself tomorrow and ask them if it is okay for me to work without my physical license and with just the license number for a while. i know employers can verify the license number anyway. if not, i will just wait for my paper license in mail.

I don't know about NJ, but in TX I could start working right away as a GVN (graduate vocational nurse). I think places mostly just need your license number and then they can verify it online and will request to keep a copy of your physical license once you receive it.

any place that hires you as a nurse will ALWAYS confirm your license status with the State Board of Nursing, and I have worked without the actual card in my possession.

and no once you have your numbers you will no longer be able to work as a GVN because technically you will be a licensed nurse
