Please dont give up!!! There are teachers that are just there to talk and dont care about the students or what they learn . Sounds like you got one.. I would ask as many questions as I needed to in order to understand the information. Thats their job... I also felt like giving up while taking all my pre-classes. because it feels like a never ending process and you feel like your standing still . While people are getting into and out of nursing school all around you , you feel like you have gone nowhere... Been there, I know . But there will come a day when all this pays off an you will be graduating.... hang in there and good luck.

Only you can make the final decision, but I'm a recent RN graduate and am sooo sorry I didn't get my LPN and stop at that. As an LPN you can practice much of the same patient care without all the paperwork (at least this was true at the local hospital I worked at). I met another RN at the hospital who had been an LPN for years (how many I can't remember) and she regretted getting her RN (it was some program offered for rural nurses or something --like me, she wished she had thought more about it). I quit hospital nursing and have been looking for an office job, but they hire LPNs or MAs.

Personally, I would take some time off and work awhile. You can always go back to school -- I was 51 when I started!

Do not give up. I have been going to school since Spring 03 working on my pre-reqs and RN. I will graduate in less then a month and tonight the nurse manager of the unit (the dream job) called and said I have a job when I graduate! It has not been easy. I am a older student but as you said it has always been my dream and now it is a reality! I am going to be so proud during my pinning. Just think of school as a way of life right now and remember everything is only temporary right now. The teacher who embarassed you is only temporary!

Keep on moving and don't stop! To stay motivated, look at the rewards that are at the end of the tunnel.

It is worth it to earn your RN license due to higher pay and more career opportunities.

Hang in there...Don't let your instructor get in the way of what you want to do. I hate it when professors humiliate students when they ask questions. You pay good money to be taught a specific subject. So your biology teacher was out of line IMO...How are you to learn if you can't ask questions? I'd have a talk with the Dean of the school and let the administrative level know what happened.

If you've finished your LPN courses already, you've accomplished alot... You're almost there.. DOn't quit..

Thanks to all for responding. I have talked with my husband and I will finish out this class, professor and all. And then I am going to take some time off. I have been working at this since 9/11 time and frankly, I am burned out. I wont, however, give up on my RN dream but I am going to work on just relaxing and being and living LIFE! I miss it! Thanks again, you all really encouraged me.

In the meantime, you still need to get through this A&P class. Have you spoken with your bio prof yet? It sounds like you both had bad days at the same time: he or she should not have embarrassed in in front of the class, but 3 questions from one student in one class period (assuming it's a lecture format) is bordering on disruptive, and maybe the suggestion of the tape recorder was not intended to be hurtful, but helpful. Yes, you paid your tuition, but so did the other students, so if you have a lot of questions about the material you should meet with the prof after class to seek extra help rather than slow down the pace of instruction for others. There are probably additional books or materials that the prof could recommend that you check out. Very often, just seeing the same material written by a different author, or presented in a slightly different way makes all the difference in understanding. A&P is probably the toughest subject in the entire nursing program, but you'll make it if you keep working at it, and you'll feel better once this class is over.

Today I feel like quitting school. I have been working on gen ed courses (psych, soci, bio, chem etc) and LPN classes since 2001. I graduated this summer with my LPN and have a microbiology and after the A and P class I am in now, one more A and P to go. I didnt really get a break cause I studied for boards all July and August and took them the first week of Sept. The same week I started school. I am having a hard time being motivated to study and feel overwhelmed.:studyowl: I went to the help center at school and their "tutoring" involved viewing a CD (s). This biology teacher we have humiliated me in class the other day by saying I was asking too many questions and I should just buy a tape recorder. I was SO embarrassed but I will buy a recorder. I asked 3 questions in 1.5 hrs. So...I wonder if it is worth it to be an RN. I love my office nurse job and could stay there forever. But I also always wanted the RN. ...I wish I could be book free and enjoy life. Should I take a year off? What to do...

Sounds like your on your way to burn-out before you get started. I was in the same boat so here's what I did. I dropped alllllll of my classes this semester to study for boards and to take a break from school. I just worked soo hard getting my LPN I want to enjoy the time off focusing on developing my nursing skills without worrying about a microbiology exam. Will I become an RN? YES, but I took this break because I needed it. Sounds like you need a break. What's your hurry? I decided to pick back up in January & take some pre-req's then & enroll in the transition class in May 07. Nursing school will be there. Take some time off, enjoy your accomplishment (LPN) refresh yourself and afterward continue your education. :icon_hug:
