Hey guys! I know the application opened not too long ago and I just wanted to start this thread for everyone that is planning to or have already applied ? Hope to hear from everyone!
Hi everyone!
I hope you’re all doing well. I got my acceptance letter a week ago from Loyola and will be attending the ABSN program at the maywood campus. I just wanted to reach out to future classmates. I’m both excited and nervous to start. I am relocating from California and I wanted to get some tips and advice on where to start looking for apartments. Thank you and I’m excited to meet my future classmates!

CONGRATS!
A few friends of mine attend Loyola Chicago Med School, which is on the same campus as the Nursing School. They said that about 60% of their classmates live closer to campus in Oak Park or Forest Park; the other 40% live closer to downtown in neighborhoods such as Wicker Park, Logan Square, and West Loop. Really depends on if you want to be closer to the campus or downtown.
Yay CONGRATS! It's exciting to start to plan the move.. I'm hoping to live somewhere between downtown and Maywood along 290. Anyone know if there are areas I should avoid on that stretch due to safety? It's OK to me if it's not exciting like wicker park.. I'm sure I'll be too busy in school anyway! But I would like to be close enough to a train to go into town to visit friends. I figure I'll have to go and just scope it out in person to get a feel of things.. ? I did hear from a former student that Maywood proper is avoid-worthy. And Oak Park is a well known, affluent suburb FYI.

Take this with a huge grain of salt since I don't live in the area, but I was told to avoid the area between United Center and Oak Park (which covers most of the space along 290 between West Loop and Oak Park).

I had a feeling that might be the case... the rent seemed so reasonable! X)

I recently was accepted too and am starting to think about where I want to live! I just moved to Illinois a few months ago but I am in the suburbs right now and am still not super familiar with the Maywood area. If you get any other suggestions on neighborhoods to avoid or look at please share! CONGRATS on your acceptance!
