Low rider pants on nurses

Published

It's becoming a problem in many workplaces according to yesterday's Wall Street Journal: Low rider pants.

I'm seeing some nurses wearing them, and they're steadily moving south of propriety in my opinion. Latest styles are all flared, too.

It's one thing to stand at a bar wearing them, or accept a Grammy wearing them. But in a nursing setting...?

I was totally disillusioned when I started my preceptorship in a nursing home (for my administrator's license) and saw wrinkled scrubs and t-shirts! EGADS! Where is the pride in that? How do you expect people to treat you with respect, when you don't have enough respect for yourself to at least look professional! Also, nurses work in many different situations, whites probably aren't practical for ER work, and Spongebob is NOT appropriate for gerontology, no matter how much you love him; however, it might make a child feel more secure.

AMEN!!!

I am no prude. That outfit is cute BUT it has NO place in professional healthcare settings, period, It would be great at a pajama party, or on the street. NO place in nursing.

The Dickies Hip-Flip scrub pants are absolutely the worst. Way too low. Good news is the flare/low riders are slowly going out of style, I think.

one can only hope. TOO many people who have NO place wearing these, are. Guts hanging over these are so unappealing. And those women who wear em with g-strings hanging up the back make me lose my appetite (wait, that is not a bad thing, rofl).

I think that's tacky as well. What i think is REALLY tacky about it is the majority of the girls i see that wear them are appx. 16-17 years old. The heck does a 16 year old need with a THONG????

Now this got to be quite a hot topic. i just have to jump in! I think you have to keep in mind that we all have different body types, and you really need to choose your clothing based on that. I think pretty much everyone agrees that NO ONE wants to look at bellies and cracks at work. A high waist scrub might work for some, a lower slung one for others.

You can look unprofessional in any type of scrub if it isn't for your body type. Tripping over crotch that hangs to your knees is just a ridiculous looking as a well-formed belly hanging over the top. Know yourself, know the dress code, dress accordingly.

If no skin is showing I don't really think it matters where they choose to have their waistline. Bigger fish to fry out there then this.

Yeah that outfit is totally wrong for work....I wear dickies flared low rise but they don't look like that and i wear a regular scrub to that covers to my rear end the first picture was fine but the girl in the blue....no way. I mainly like the flares cuz they fit over my shoes and I like that elastic drawstring combo waistband..anyway

I just asked my husband to look at the picture of the dickies low rise and short scrub top and asked his "outsider" opinion of the outfit.

"Honey, what do you think of these scrubs? Do you think it looks like something a professional nurse should wear?"

"If it's a Mediao star playing a professional nurse, maybe."

I wear the "low-rise" scrub pants. And I'm a pudgy girl. But guess what? They aren't a problem. Because my scrub top completely covers them. Even with my arms over my head. No one sees my undies or my tummy. Sheesh I'd be embarrased if they could. I'm more comfy without my belly button being irritated.

I find it unprofessional and insulting to our profession. I don't care how a person dresses off work time but ON DUTY, they should present a professional appearance at all times. so call me a drag or a bore; that is just how I see it.

I agree!

I am comfortable wearing my pajamas, but it doesn't mean it is appropriate professional attire.
