I graduated with a BA in 2005 with a very low GPA of a 2.3. I went back to school to take prereqs for a medical technology program. I did terrible in the classes the reason why is a very long story. I am going to a community college in the spring to take nursing school prereqs. I am now in a better state of mind so I think I will do better. Do you think that I can still get into nursing school if I do really well with my prereq courses for nursing school even though I did so poorly before?
I just recently applied to direct-entry NP schools with a low GPA, very similar to yours. I was accepted to one program already (the program requires a GPA of 3.0 according to the website). I think it helps if you continue your education after graduation, and taking the pre-reqs at a community college will probably help. A low GPA is not going to rule you out of all nursing schools.
I think having great experience will be helpful too. I currently work in oncology clinical research so I think this helped in my application review. It might hlep to become a CNA first, or get some experience in a closely related field.
I say go for it, and good luck!

Its possible. I have a 2.5 GPA and it was a 2.07 when I started taking nursing classes ( i have 90 hours). I did the whole not come to class not withdraw on 4 classes years ago and it crippled my gpa. The local comm college in chatt only looks at courses, nursing GPA and NET scores. I have done great in pre req's and scored 91 on NET and am pretty much a shoe in this fall. I will let you know when I get my letter but dont lose hope cause it CAN be done.
