Low GPA need help finding schools!

Published

Hello! I messed up in school the first two years, and made b's and c's in all my maths and sciences. I have a 2.87 with a 2.46 science gpa. Made an 85 on my teas but I want to retake it to do better. I'm looking at BSN schools, and I have no idea who will accept me with my low gpa! It's so competitive in Georgia schools around the metro area, and I'm starting to panic because I'm already a year and a half behind now! Anyone have any luck getting into a good two year program with the same situation as me? Also, please list recommendations for schools around metro Atlanta, or Georgia in all. Thank you!

I think your best bet would be to retake anything you didn't get an A in to become competitive. I'm not sure what the average GPA for nursing program acceptance is around GA but many schools are so competitive most applicants that get in have a 4.0, while other programs are around 3.5.

You might want to hop over to the Georgia board and see if you can find some answers there too.

Would you consider starting at a community college? You don't need to get an associates before you transfer, but take the A&P's, microbiology, and chemistry, which usually a BSN program wants you to have taken before they accept you anyway. You asked about 2 year schools after you said you're looking at BSN though...so I'm not sure what you really want, but you can have either even with a low high school GPA, just bring it up in the pre-reqs and general ed.

Hi! I meant two year schools as in 2 year bsn programs, I didn't want to look for 3 year nursing programs. I'm already done with all my pre-reqs. The only options I have now is to retake courses, but I just wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations for schools.

Just be aware that some programs have strict policies on retakes like what courses you can retake and how many times.

You'll probably have to retake all the C classes. My school anything below a B won't count towards a nursing degree.

In the spirit of clarity and brevity: Your science GPA is bad and you won't be accepted into BSN programs.

You need to retake those courses and get A's. This will not only boost your overall GPA, but also show that you have the ability to fight through adversity.

You should also consider retaking nonscience classes in which you received poor grades as well, in order to again boost your overall GPA and show some initiative in making yourself better.

I don't know any school in my area taking anything lower than 3.2.(Dallas, TX) I have a 4.0 and was wait listed. Your best bet is to retake those science classes.
