Low cost/Free Physical Exam, Immunization?

HI, do you know if you can request a physical exam and immunization/vaccine exam at your work place? I already had my TB test done from work. I have no insurance and low income. I've called my local public health and they said its full price regardless and referred me to low cost clinics. Do you anything about the sliding scale or vouchers at clinics? Do you know if W.I.A. pay for medical exams? Also, do you know if OBGYN clinics give free physical exams? I was hoping someone on here can help guide me in the right direction. Thanks

Have you checked your local CVS/Walgreens? They offer immunizations I know that. The county I live in has a clinic for low income people. They charge what you can afford. But I have no idea what state you live in. An OB/gyn clinic is not going to do a physical for nursing school. A yearly exam with them that is free under obamacare is not the same. You need to go to an urgent care clinic or family doc.

thanks Heather. I have not checked into CVS/Walgreens. I've heard that they cost more than low cost clinics, but I'm open to give them a call. I am waiting to hear back from my job to see if they can refer me to a place to get my physical exam/immunization done and if not, I will look into low income clinics.

Why are you not insured? This is what the whole Obamacare mandate was about. Under new healthcare guidelines (ie, you SHOULD be insured), physical exams are free through the providers as it's considered preventative care. Besides, at my school you are required to have insurance to be in clinical...

When I attended a southern CA LVN program, the physicals were performed by nurse practitioners who came to the school to examine all the students in my class. The cost of the physical was included in the tuition.

Are you near any federal health centers? They go by sliding scales.

Some people still couldn't afford health insurance under Obamacare. I went without because I couldn't justify spending $200/mo for something I really couldn't afford. I'm saving more money by negotiating with my physician and paying out of pocket. My prescriptions are dirt cheap as well ($5-10) even without insurance.

@NuGuyNurse2b true. I know I need to be insured and working on it because I've heard that everyone needs to be insured after Dec 31st. Also, when you mention that physcial exams are free through providers, did you mean I can get it for free at my job? (I work at a rehab hospital) @thecommuter Yes, you're right. I was hoping to get things done before the lvn interview to help enhance my application. @4everstudent15Yes,I ran across a few clinics offering sliding scale systems. @beachyRN2beInteresting. Were you able to negotiate your phyiscial exam and immunizations?

I was able to get a physical for school at my local Walmart care clinic for $40. Are any clinics located in your area?

Understood, but my point is, it is now illegal to not be insured. I didn't mean to make it seem like money wasn't an issue.

Tasha - I mean a provider that you go to. Have you looked at the school's health services also? You could ask as I know at my school the health office offers discounted services to students. However, we are still required to have health insurance for clinical, so it's not something we can avoid.

Walgreens & cvs post their prices online for the APN/pa clinics. WIA does not typically pay for physicals & immunization as you are expected to have health insurance. You may need to have health insurance as a condition of enrollment to school in addition to malpractice/ .

OBGYN clinics generally do well woman and obstetric exams not school physicals. Federally qualified health care clinics are an option.

If you have an urgent care around, check to see what their price for physical are. May be cheaper than the local cvs/walgreens. They may also have coupons posted on their website.
