Los Angeles County School of Nursing Fall 2017

Published

Hey, is there anyone who applied for Fall 2017 admission to LA County? Have you guys heard any news? has anyone called you? What are your thoughts?

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Thought I'd entertain you all while we anxiously await. As I mentioned before, I am graduating as an LVN on May 18th. Today, my class brought up the subject of work options for LVN's. Many in my class are trying to avoid working in a nursing home. So, I mentioned that we can also apply to work for a private practice, like a plastic surgeon. I mentioned that because I was approached by a plastic surgeon a while back. When I told him I am in school to be an LVN, he gave me his card and told me that when I get my license, to call him. He goes, I'll give you a job. I was kind of excited about the possibility, BUT today one of our professors said to be careful with private practices. She says that previous students who have gone into private practices have mentioned to her that they had to leave because they were asked to either do something outside of their scope of practice, or were asked to sign a document with their name, and the title of an RN instead of an LVN. Has anyone heard of such a thing happening?

Hey everyone! I was reading all of the comments and this waiting game is horrible! I swear I feel like I'm getting an anxiety attack as May approaches lol. Anyways, has anyone received an email or letter regarding our status? I know they were suppose to let us know today if our points even qualify for consideration but I didn't receive anything. Let me know í ½í¸Š

Where did you hear this information? I didn't receive anything either.

I received an email on 4/13 saying they're going to give us an update on 4/24 regarding our standing. So yea I've been waiting all day for this email and got nothing.

Are you lvn-rn or generic?

LVN to RN

Yes, you guys get notified earlier than the generic applicants...school starts sooner for you, too.. Someone else said the same thing about expecting a notification on the 24th...I guess they need more time....He said the cutoff is 78 points

Yup that's what the email said. So I've been waiting for an email all day from them and got nothing. I calculated all my points but somehow still doubt I did it right lol

Oh ok...Well it's not too difficult 15 points for an A in your science courses. 10 for a B. 5 for a C.

English 101 is 10 for an A 8 for B and 6 for a C

Psy and general Ed is 3 for a A 2 for a B and 1 for a C

And teas is 15 points for 65.7 + 5 bonus points for 75 or above

Phew I'm beat..That took me so long to type on my phone...Gonna go watch prison school on hulu

Lol yea I did the math and I'm fine. What I meant was that knowing my luck I probably would do something wrong. Praying everything works out for all of us!!!

Haven't heard of that happening, but I can see that happen. You must know what your scope of field is and what is not. Down side of working at those practices is that you can possibly lose your skill set. Nursing homes aren't favorable but they do provide good experience.

Big hospital do still hire LVN's.
