Los Angeles County College of Nursing - Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to the Spring 2020 Basic (Generic) program. The school website posted dates for an information session for prospective students. I'll be attending May 31, 2019, and wanted to see if anyone else is going to the same day or any of the other ones?

Application window opens June 15th for Spring 2020. I hope this thread will help answer admission/application questions and get connected with other applicants or those who are currently in the program.

I think it really varies every semester. It can't hurt to apply! You may interview really well, too, which will put you at 84.

Hey @Bosoxgirl3358 and @cxvnx glad to see there are others here who applied. I believe the cut off points for the last cohort was 86, which I think is really high. But like what @Bosoxgirl3358 said it varies every semester. I would definitely apply!

How many points do you all have (before the interview, of course)? Im at 88, I think.

Before the ATI TEAS and Interview, I am at 68 points. @Bosoxgirl3358You're at a really great position at 88 points before the interview! I hope to do really well on the ATI TEAS exam to get the 20 points.

For those who had already taken the ATI TEAS, please share some tips and advice, any help will be appreciated.

Wow! I am set back since AP scores only count for 1 point, but I am thinking that if I don't get in this time I might take a humanities course at a CC in order to get the full 3 points and then I would have 81 points. Someone got accepted into the fall 2019 cohort with 81 points prior to the interview.

If I had to guess based on the fact that you already have 68 before the TEAS, I’d say you should have no problem getting those 20 points for the TEAS.

I used the mometrix book from Amazon to study. When I took the TEAS, it has been years (14+) since I took my science prerequisites (which I had to re-take for recency) and the book helped me to fine tune some things. Since you probably just took your sciences, you should be fine with a tune up.

I'm assuming that person with 81 points plus the 5 points from the interview got them at the 86 cut off line for acceptance, during that application cycle.

I'd admire your efforts in applying, keep at it! I would do the same, this is my number one choice for RN ADN in Socal.

@Bosoxgirl3358 I heard a lot of great things about the Mometrix book, I will definitely search Amazon for a copy. Thanks! I have been using the ATI manual which gives such a brief overview over the science portion.

Hey Everyone,

I applied and never heard back regarding my application for Fall 2019. I am assuming thats a rejection. I am attempting to apply again now, however whenever i click the link to do so and sign in, it just shows me my previous application without any option to submit a new one for Spring 2020. Is anyone else experiencing this, or found how to resolve it?

Thanks!

Hey, @atrzyna you said you are "assuming" you got rejected? Two things I'd suggest you do. First, try to contact OES (Office of Educational Services) at the school and ask what was your status with your Fall 2019 application. If you did get "rejected," then why didn't you get a letter in the mail? I've heard that the letters in the mail will inform you your points and why you got rejected. Second, email the OES stating that you'd like them to roll over your application to Spring 2020 once you have squared away everything with your application.

That is something I would do in the case I didn't get accepted to Spring 2020. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thank you, I will try that. I gave it some time for a letter to come, but nothing was ever received. I had some issues during the process with the school so I am assuming that is probably why I wasn't moving forward in their process. I will check with them and go from there.

Thanks again!

Hey everyone,

A little update, I called the school and they said it would take 24-48hrs to process transcripts once they received them. I want to make sure my transcripts are received by LAC + CONAH because I know it can take several days to be mailed. I've attended 4 different schools so I got a lot to track down.

Same here, I have attended 4 schools so I've got a number of transcripts to track as well. Luckily most of my prerequisites are from one school.

I believe I am at 64 points before the Teas. I have to get the 20 points in order to be a competitive candidate. I will be applying to LACC, GCC, PCC, Harbor and Rio Hondo but LACCONAH is my first choice. Heard wonderful things about the program and I'm up for the challenge!

I am only applying to LAC+CONAH this year. I thought about applying to other schools which would be smart if I wanted to get started in an RN program right away. But after hearing how this program is well established in didactic and clinical, I can't imagine missing out on all the opportunities to learn. Working for county hospitals like LAC+USC is where I plan to work as an RN, it just seemed a perfect idea to attend LAC+CONAH. Plus, the campus is less than 15 min from where I live minus the LA traffic.
