Los Angeles County Allied School of Nursing

Published

Hello I am applying to LAC Allied School of Nursing for the Fall 2013 semester ADN program. I was wondering if any body else is applying to this school for the fall 2013 semester or if there is anybody that currently attends or has attended this school that has any advice or opinions about this school. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

I know. Thank you for the advise. Im not losing hope? but the wait for the acceptance/denial is killing me though. Im hoping and praying that I get accepted at another schools I applied. Are you in the program already?

No, I will be applying for the fall 2014 semester. Im currently completing my last science pre req, micro and praying and believing for an A. I really need the 15 points. Did you use the ATI study guide to study for the teas? Which other schools did you apply to?

Micro is awesome! Or maybe because I had an awesome teacher, lol. Where are you taking it? Do you need help? Tips?

Hi jofapcastillo. I was just wondering if you got in?

Hi smyleeRN2b, I too plan on applying for their program for fall 2014, maybe we'll see each other :-). And I am also just finishing micro :-), it is much easier than anatomy and physio. I'll be taking chem and some gen edu classes next semester in case I don't get into county; all other colleges require chem. I have 4.0 gpa, but I did not take gen edu classes that they require yet, which brings my total points down, but I do have bachelor degree in another field, i wonder if they give you any points on that . I'll use January to study for the teas, during my winter break, hopefully we can go over 75:x3:

Hi Jofapcastillo,

I'm in first semester too, so I am rarely on this site...to time. My advise, if you got B's or C's, retake those classes for more points. If you re-take the Teas, I don't think you'll be eligible for the bonus +5. Good Luck!!

Hi Enzyme, it's nice to know that someone will be applying for fall 2014 with me :) I agree, that so far micro is easier than ap 1&2. I'm really enjoying micro, so far it is probably my favorite. I took general chem already. It wasn't too bad, I got an A. I had to take it as a pre req for ap 2. Not sure when I'll start studying for the teas. I'm waiting for them to post the next information session dates. What school are you taking micro? I'm taking it at ISP in Whittier. It's an accelerated 4 week course. So, have you taken all the required courses for la county? I have taken all of them, micro is my last; however, I will be retaking political science, because I took it many years ago and got a B. I'm trying to get an A, every point counts...lol

I took all the classes they need in order to apply, those gen edu are not a must to apply, but they do carry those extra points. I took anat, physiology, psych 1, psych 41, engl 101, engl 103, math, statistics, philosophy, and now micro; now you see my point, I took several classes for which they don't give any points, such as math, stat, engl 103, philosphy. I'll be taking socio and speech in spring, but they can't give me any points on classes that are yet to be completed. I'm taking classes at LACC. But I'll give it a shot, maybe they'll give me a chance based on my gpa, or my previous BA, for which I took many gen edu classes ( I think if I add points for my science classes, engl and psych 41, and if I do manage to score those extra points on the teas, I'll end up with 78-79 points. They say that usually the cut off points is at 80, but you know,I have nothing to lose by trying, there's always next time when I'll have socio and speech done anyway :-). What would be your score if you too get 20 points on the teas?

And I am also waiting for them to post those info session dates so I can go there and get more detailed information on everything. We might see each other :-)

Yup, you have nothing to lose in applying, that's a very good point :) but you know what, by the time they send out acceptance letters, you should already have the socio and speech classes completed. i don't think points are tallied until after teas scores are received. Well, That's one of the questions I have when they have the info session. The 20 points on Teas would give me a total of 84 points. I thought about volunteering for another point, but I just don't have time. What is you previous degree in? I hope we see each other. Do you live close to the school?

You are right about not having time :-). My previous degree is in journalism, so I'm thinking maybe they could give me points for political science classes I took for my previous degree, I took three political science courses, plus I don't know which courses they choose for humanities, I took many before, but I guess it's all up to them. I think you are in with 84 points :-), but we must try hard with that teas test, and as you say not much time for anything, let alone going over that ATI preparation book:nailbiting:. If I don't make it this semester I'll get an extra point the following semester as a second time applicant hihi. But also, you might be right about their way of doing the point system, and I might have socio and speech done by then; that would give me those precious points. I don't live too far from the school, it's not in my backyard :-), but probably 15 min drive, which is great. What about you? Would it be a long commute for you or you live near by as well?

Hello everyone, just putting up another update. Clinicals are great. Everything we learn we get to put into practice. There is a lot of preparation that goes into client care. We have to do clinical worksheets for every patient we take care of. These worksheets take hours to complete. The tests are tricky. Overall this is a great school. If you really want to learn what it means to be a nurse definitely apply to this school. Just be warned your whole life will revolve around school. Well I have to study now take care everyone.
