  1. After two years of the nursing program; today I graduated. It was tough but I feel ready. County is a wonderful school and I recommend it to everyone good luck to all.
  2. That's great congrats on getting in welcome to County. The LVN transition course is really hard (I have heard). I'm sure they will prepare you well to join third semester. Can't wait to meet you and all the LVNs in the fall. :)
  3. Hello everyone. I just wanted to update this thread a bit. I passed second semester and am currently on vacation! YAY! Second semester was very hard but I managed to get through with an A and B's. Second semester is really challenging due to all the new skills that are added (NG Tube, Foley Catheter, Insulin, IVPB to name a few). Also second semester requires the simultaneous care of two-three patients. Pharmacology class is hard due to the tricky test questions. We had an OB rotation and a peds rotation. These rotations were fun. I got to see a couple births. Med-Surg is by far the hardest class and clinical rotation. Test questions are extremely tricky and we had a lot of bad test questions. All and all county is still (in my opinion) a great school and I'm loving every minute of it. :)
  4. I called county and they said letters will be going out in another week or two. I am not applying but a friend of mine is and I called for her yesterday.
  5. Yeah I'm really happy and I can't wait to start second semester
  6. Clinicals were great. There I felt that I really got to apply all the skills they taught us. I got to hang IV fluids, I did dressing changes, I did IV IM SQ injections, I also administered many different meds, and saw all sorts of trauma and medical dx. My instructor was great and really helped me too. County is an educational hospital so the staff is willing to help you learn as well.
  7. I managed to finish semester 1 and I wanted to post a bit of feedback for those going into semester I and those who are planning to apply to LACSON. Semester 1 is not easy it requires a lot of work if you want to get a passing grade. A lot of people say getting an A in this school is impossible. It is not impossible but it does require a lot of studying. You will have two nursing care plans due throughout the semester. These care plans take many hours to finish (I took 20 hours to complete each of my care plans). You will also have patient worksheets due every week you take care of a patient. These worksheets take about 5 hours to complete once you get the hang of doing them. Class lectures are mainly PowerPoint style lectures. Each lecture is done by the nurse instructor that is most qualified to lecture about the subject. Test are based on your assigned readings and handouts although test questions are not always straightforward. If you think in terms of ADPIE you will do fine. You will also have a written essay due. All and all semester one is great and you will have a great time if you keep up with your studies.
  8. Why not apply to the LA County's LVN to RN bridge that starts Summer 2014?
  9. County takes a really long time to notify there applicants. When I was accepted they sent out the notifications one month after they said they would. They are on county time lol. Just keep hanging in there :)
  10. Hello everyone, just putting up another update. Clinicals are great. Everything we learn we get to put into practice. There is a lot of preparation that goes into client care. We have to do clinical worksheets for every patient we take care of. These worksheets take hours to complete. The tests are tricky. Overall this is a great school. If you really want to learn what it means to be a nurse definitely apply to this school. Just be warned your whole life will revolve around school. Well I have to study now take care everyone.
  11. Hello to everyone just want to update this thread a little. So far we are in our third week of first semester. The staff is really nice and helpful. There is a lot of reading to do (which is why I haven't replied in a while). The staff really reinforces everything we learn. All requirements for passing a class are clearly stated and rules are strictly adhered to. So far so good we have our first set of tests soon and I guess I'll update after those tests. :)
  12. They didn't inform me. I went in to turn in some financial aid stuff and just passed by the admissions office and asked them about my uniforms. If you ordered them online by the time they specified they will already have your uniform available. Its a good thing I got them too because mines were too big.
  13. I picked up my uniforms from County today and they look great :).
  14. I called and first they told me they had just started sending the live scan stuff out and about a week later (yesterday) i called again and they said they haven't sent any live scan stuff yet. So I'm guessing they haven't sent anything out as no one has said they have received anything yet .
  15. They didn't mention we would need one. I would just get a stethoscope and the other materials they told us we would need. Of course if you want to get a bp cuff i don't think it would hurt to have one.
