Looking for Onc or MedSurg in Boston. Why is this so difficult?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi all!

I'm an RN with 2.5 years experience as an onc nurse at a major academic hospital in Baltimore (multiple chemotx and blood products, bone marrow transplant pts, pts on the precipice of MICU transfers at any time of the day, etc.) That being said, I'm definitely not a new grad. I'm relocating to Boston in August and am having a really difficult time even getting an interview for positions which I appear qualified. Does any one have any advice? I'm ONS-certified and I'm willing to do either onc or medsurg, but no replies yet. I'm getting nervous! :imbar

I welcome any thoughts/advice.

Thanks!

Stay in Maryland where the jobs are!!!!!!!!

Yes, well, unfortunately that's not an option.

Have you tried any traveling agencies? They might know of some positions in the Boston area. I too am moving to (Cape Cod) Massachusetts and am having a little bit of difficulty in people contacting me or calling me back. I'm just going to keep trying and eventually I'll get lucky. Persistance is the key here, I think. Good Luck.

Hate to say it..but cape cod may be a bit tricky too. I live on the Cape right now...and my entire nursing class ('08) is having trouble landing a job. That could be totally different with experienced nurses though (I hope it is!). I'm probably moving to NC.

LemonLime: You should try Milford Regional Hospital. They recently built a new oncology unit. My mother works there, and it's the only hospital she has really enjoyed working at (and she's been a nurse for 25 plus yrs!) It is small, but they treat their nurses pretty well. Good luck!

Hi,

Sorry to hear you can't find a job. I am actually an experienced Correctional Nurse and plan on persuing that route if possible through UMASS Correctional Health or Barnstable County Sheriff's Office. I just took ACLS and the Trauma Nurse Course hoping to get into the ER but that might be impossible right now. Good Luck in whatever you do. FYI:Come to Las Vegas tons of jobs for nurses.

Specializes in Hem/Onc/BMT.

Try Beth israel I know that the BMT unit is short for I work there. Since you have experiance they should take you PM me and I will give you some info

Did u try Newton-Wellesley ? I believe the are planning to open a cancer treatment center

St. Joseph's in Nashua had some positions listed with oncology xp preferred. If you can live north of Boston they're a pretty easy commute and nice place. Shoot me an IM if you want the recruiter's info.
