Looking For Other Pa Nurses!!!!

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hello all,

I'm taking this chance to meet other nurses in PA. Who knows, maybe I've meant some of you. I graduated a year ago, and meant a lot of other nursing students in clinicals, and such.

Anyway, if you're interested in joining this discussion to meet others in PA who are recent grads., leave some comments.

Anyway, I'm wondering what kinds of hours everyone else is working, where people are working, what kinds of skills you're all learning, and your current job satisfaction, etc. Right now, I work quite a number of hours in a cardiovascular surgical unit. It's pretty good experience. Sometimes I find I get taken advantage of to work a lot of hours, but most times I don't mind, cuz I get a lot of good experience. I may move on to CRNA school someday. Any body else have grad. school aspriations?

Anyway, if you're a recent grad. or from PA, join the discussion, and let people know what's out there for new grads.

Thanks,

Have you thought about taking the MAT? I know alot of grad schools here in texas accept that instead of the GRE. I hear it is easier. Yes, I don't like the idea of taking those type of tests either.

I'm a student in PA. I will be starting my first semester of the ADN program this fall. I'm about an hour South of Pittsburgh (20 minutes from the WV state line). I will be doing a few clinical days at Children's Hospital in Oakland this upcomming Spring. Anyone familiar with the staff/learning atmosphere of this hospital? I am so excited to get some clinical time at a facility with a reputaion like this. The next biggest thing in clinicals for me will be Ruby Memorial in WV. I also lived in Pittsburgh for a year when I went to MA school. I love it in "The City". We should all get together and hold an allnurses dinner or something. That would be really cool.

NE PA small town working in th e er as an EDT starting Nursing school in 10 days.

Since the GRE is used more commonly than the MAT for my purposes, I took the GRE. Graduate schools are used to looking at GRE scores more, but most do accept MAT scores, at least for the CRNA schools I applied too.

I have no plans to take the MAT. I believe I can get into CRNA school with my current experience, GPA, etc. It's competitive, but I feel like I've gotten great experience in college and in the field. If you want to know specifics, you can pm me. If a school concentrates heavily on GRE scores, it says something about the idiots that are running the program. My feeling is that GRE scores are held to a lesser degree than your CCU experience, education, and GPA. So personally I'm not going to waste my time taking the GRE over or taking the MAT even though I didn't score what I wanted on the GRE. Not only that, I don't have the tolerance to sit through another GRE, so I figure If I don't have the tolerance, why bother. I can do other things to make myself look more attractive. About the MAT being easier, I'm not exactly sure. I can't see it being any worse or any better than the GRE to be honest.

Later now.

From Pittsburgh!

Not a new nurse...worked 20 years at a hospital that closed last Sept. 17 years in a CVICU and 3 years in Pediatrics.

Now I work in an EP lab at another hospital in Pgh.

 ;)

Sounds good! :)

hi other pa nurses. i work ob (straight nights) in a small town near york. it's nice here. i want to do grad school for nursing ed or perinatal. i've been a nurse for 16 years. i am thinking about distance ed or maybe york college. the folks at york are not the friendliest when i've called for info. i wouldn't need the gre though. anyone have any experience at york college? plmk. i graduated from an adn program in md and have a bsn from the u of md. money is a real issue. my hospital only pays 2500/yr.for education. it's frustrating. the grad school options close by are limited. i'd love to meet other pa nurses old and new. i see someone else worked for wellspan. how was that our hospital is thinking of allying w/ them.

I have lived in PA all my life. Grew up in the NE, about 5 miles from NY state border. I have lived in York for the past 5 years and currently work for Wellspan but am in a time of transistion. Not sure where I want to go from here. Recently have been considering going back for my masters?? Who knows. Eventually my husband and I hope to move back up north , we both like country living much better :D .

Hey I start My clinical as HACC Lancaster on the 25th. I live in Ephrata. Work as a CNA for an agency. If anyone is close and fells like chatting PM me. I'd love to meet other nurses and Student's from the Lancaster, York, Reading area.

 today, enjoying the sunshine for one of the few times northwestern pa. has seen the sun this summer---- 29 year graduate of a diploma school of nursing here in pa.--- have lived in other places in the country. I truly count my blessings to live in Kinzua country, where I see nature in the changing of the seasons, where I drive to work with deer, bear, grouse, turkey, foxes, coyotes, osprey, songbirds, doves, hawks, porcupines, and all God's creatures, and wildflowers and trees. I've worked in Mental Health the entire time I've been a nurse. :D I am at the half century point and I'm apprehensive about what that means for me career wise and life wise. I've been working as a nurse longer than some of the nurses I work with have been alive. We learn things from each other. I still enjoy working in the Mental Health field. I see a healthcare crisis looming here in Pa. that's different from other parts of the country in that we have an aging population and our young people don't have the desire to stay here in Pa. I myself left Pa. when I was in my early 20's and didn't return until I was almost 40. I was born & raised in the Pgh. area, have relatives in the Pocono area. This is a great state, great people!! ;)

I graduated in 2000 and live in a Philly subburb and work there too. I work med-surg and am in school for my BSN.

KAYCEE! I know you don't I???? From FP board? Or a it's a huge coincidence.
