  1. Hello DragonFly. I agree with you,the importance of calling the Dr.s for Pt/Inr,etc,& non communication from other nurses,,. Sad to say, there are nurses like that everywhere, To the poster who said"Give Me a Break" Gee,I also work with a nurse, with an attitude, just like yours, non -productive. Keep up your good work DragonFly. You sound like a great nurse,do not give any creedence to the ones who. Try to eat their young! They only will if you let them! I personly never let that happen. Happy Fall Elsie*

Hello All. What is a PSB test,,maybe I have been outta school wayyyy too long! Also Wannabee,I went to the very same nursing school in 1994 that you will be going too, actually I also started in the Feb class, the program is excellent! The instructor's I had were great & extremly supportive! The program extremley structered. Everything appropriate. When I went to nursing school,,computors were not that known. I had never even used one,so in essence you do have a wonderful advantage, that those of us years back did not have,in the fact that your info is able to be accessed more quickly, using the internet. I would like to add though. Your nursing books are your life line! Remember this,,your Taber's is your Bible! As a matter of fact,if memory serves me.in the conference room, every class picture from the very start of the program is hanging on the wall,& yep, mine is there as well. I am very proud of the school & the program. If you ever need anything,or have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Elsie Good Luck!

  5. Hello all from Balmy NorthEast,Pa. Hi there Jubei,I would first like to say,,"Hate"is a very strong word to be using. I worked in Tele for some 7.5 yrs.I am an LPN,Been a nurse for quite some time. In nursing school,we had Critical Care rotation for 5 weeks, A wonderful rotation, that was in 1993. Right out of nursing school,I went to work at our local hospital. I knew a bit about strips,Also during hospital orientation, had 2 weeks,yep,2 weeks of Arrthymia training, who taught us,the Tele Techs,,they were absoultly wonderful! What they DID NOT DO,was be judgemental. I learned a lot. Could read a strip with the best of them I also, when the need arose served as monitor tech for some 32 monitors, for RN/LPN alike. I never ever once made(nor did the rountine Tech)make anyone feel inadquate if he/she did not fully understand the strips. It sounds to me like you have a grudge,ax to grind,or maybe just strut your stuff? Do you have this attitude in your work place? I can tell you for sure, the attitude you seem to be conveying here wouldn't last 1 hour where I work. What about being a team player? If a battery is dead/weak/leads are off.etc.etc.etc...I know for a fact, the charge nurse is usually always behind the desk, monitors close by, they also can watch the monitors usually for a few minutes, why don't you change them yourself, you also being a LVN,know when the nurses are in patient rooms, you just usually can't drop that minute what your doing & go to where ever the problem is? I would be very curious to talk with some of your coworkers in this situation? Don't judge others because they may not be as expert as you reading the strips,I'm pretty certain that there are a few things that you as well are not as proficent in,,,maybe starting IV's,,,whatever it may be.I'm sure you as well wouldn't want someone to say about you, well, that so & so,couldn't start an IV if her life depended on it. Or I'm also certain you wouldn't want someone saying,I can't stand that Monitor Tech/LVN,she doesn't know the difference between a Nasel Cannula & a NG tube! I know,a tad extreme, but same point. Just rememebr Jubie,we are all nurses,we all excell at different things. Happy Fall Elsie*
  6. =donmomofnine]Okay, I know four out of the five ingredients. Nystatin, cold cream, hydrocortisone and zinc oxide. Works wonders! Hey out there from Sunny NorthEast,Pa The compound your talking about,I don't know it as the name you called it,however, the ingredients are what I know,,also,,Desitation(baby cream) Is also an ingredient in that as well, The healing process was absolutely wonderful! We used to call this"Miricale Whip "works miracles! Also, here is a trip down memory lane, anyone remember when they used to use Mayo & Yogurt paste, use to apply it thick to the wound area, then put a sun lamp on it for about 10 minutes, the theory was the live yogurt killed the bacteria, not sure what the mayo did, unless just protected the skin,When I was in nursing school , many, many years ago,I saw this,,I have never seen it since! I know all the possible problems with this theroy, starting with the use of the Sun Lamp! Have a great day! Else**
  7. Congrats Luv!!!!! You should be so very proud of yourself, your hard work, determination,& drive, got you where you are today, again congrats! If I may,I precept quite a bit,if I may give you one piece of advice, before you go into the world of ''Nursing", There will be people that will get you down, there will be people that will help you immensley, there is also that group,& I hate to say it,& yet, they do exist,,the very small group that either , # 1,love to see a new nurse fall on their face. # 2,Eat their young! # 3,Tell you something, that is absoultly the oposite(I have actually seen this!) Then there are the 95% of the other group, they will be your Teachers,co-workers,preceptors. They will be a valuable source for you,,use them wisely. When all else fails,,,always use your best Judgement & Commen sense. With those two,& your nursing skills,& in time, experience.you will do great. Congratulations! Elsie*
  8. Hey CuteCNA,,I have a sinking feeling the pt didn't really do anything,,he was on a Versed Gtt,& also Intubated! Hahahhahaha,,I would have paid big bucks to have seen that CRE8!!! As they say,,,''PRICELSSS''.!! Btw,I never laughed so hard after reading that post,I needed that laugh! Elsie:)
  9. In reply to.Luv2Quilt... I have a few questions & I hope I don't come off sounding like a B***h,, Why,first of all is this attendant questioning your nursing judgment? Why in the world is she even in the med room with you? Why,is she questioning Dr orders? Seems to me she thinks she's all that& has abad attitude. She sounds like a very inaduquate Tech. You should be writting her up for the sloppy care she is giving. Also,,leaving the resident in wet,pee soaked linens/clothes is also a form of abuse! I don't mean to be harping,or come down on you,you certainly have your hands full indeed! Maybe you can be more assertive with this person, maybe she needs to know who is actually charge nurse, when it's all said & done, your ultimately responsible for everything that happens,& in this case,,care that doesn't happen. It's your license that you worked so very hard for,on the line. I wish you luck,my friend:) Elsie*
  10. Hello All fellow Nurses,, Well Barefoot Lady,,,,, I thought I was the only one who thought that,,,just yesterday,,I saw our local ambulance/transport pulling up to the hospital,& that's the very first thing I thought,,thank god it's not mine,,also, when I see them arriving with a drop off(I also work in SNF as well,,I think the same thing,,thank god it's not MY admission!!!' Aren't we horrible,,hahahahahahahahahah Have a Great Weekend All. Elsie*
  11. In response to Jen2 I believe your questions regarding ''Er/Medsurge issuses are valid ones. You state that you did not post to start a debate. Well,,I have found that sometimes, with a healthy debate,at times also comes resoloution(sometimes). I do not think the questions that you pose(there very good questions as well),realisticly can avoid a debate. I as well have worked both sides of the fence. far back as 1995,,guess what,,same issues. Same questions, same ole unresloved issues. It all comes down to the almighty buck. Hospital wants to save money,so therefore, cut staffing. Seems to me,If proper staffing were maintained,(ok,a girl can dream, can't she!)then most of the issues would be resolved. Sounds too easy, doesn't it. I can honestly say though, all the Er Nurses & Medsurge nurses I worked with, were always great. I as well would try & hold off long as possible,to give the Medsurge nurse a chance to get one admitted, maybe catch ehr breath too! Before the next came rolling off the elevator. I worked in Tele, for many, many years & also came across the every same thing,in as far as all the admissions from the Er. Working in Tele,we also were always sending the pts to Medsurge, because they did not need the services of the Tele Unit, downgraded,& we as well would, most times,,not always recieve the same type of reception as the Er nurses do. No easy answer,I always think this way,we are ALL nurses, all doing a very stressfull understaffed, lots of times, unappreciated job. I wish you all well. Elsie*
  12. Wow,,& your admitting this,,, NanaElse
