I am looking for other black nurses (actually minority nurses) to communicate and network with. Although I come from an area with a pretty even mix of races in the nursing field there are very few other black nurses, I have dealt with many unique experiences and I would like to hear what others are going through, triumphs, successes, let downs, failures......I have looked everywhere and I can not find any group to fill this need. This is the largest nursing network on the web right now so I know that we are here!
No I'm just tired of black people who say white people are racist while they are just as much racist themselves ,like I said people who want to change the world should change themselves first also I noticed a trend that a lot of black people try to put blame on racism for their shortcomings...or misfortune instead of taking responsibility for their own actions...a lot of people white or non white has been killed, enslaved and discriminated agaist but you know what they kept on moving and I wish you the same, bye!!!Ps.Please do not bother to respond as I'm finished with this thread!
No one called you racist...Your words show who you are.You have managed to turn this positive thread into a negative one,and that makes me sad...Everyone should have a place to go to feel supported.People are on here to Network and to share experiences.I understand how you can feel out of place when you were the minority and I won't say that your discrimination was any less hurtful than my own,but please understand that you can't determine how someone feels. You speak about the past and "getting over it"...All I can say is...Where I live I am reminded almost daily what color I am...I don't wake up "mad" or "hateful"..I wake up and go to the local Walgreens with my scrubs on and get followed around the store,I go to work and someone accuses me of stealing money(I was not even working the day before, but they never checked)..I then, get pulled over in my Benz for No reason at all and the cop says he "just wants to run my plates"...I am not living in the past, when I woke up that day I was not aware of my color...but Society quickly reminded me...that being said I keep it moving.I don't "hate" anyone because of it,I still smile and I'm still the loving person that I was before.I really wish you well.
jrw03282009, I don't think you (or other white people) can possibly understand what racism and the so called sterotypes that plague the black race because you are what patients and society expects a professional nurse (or any other professional for that matter) to look like. Yes you may have well been a minority in your nursing program but 95% of the time we are the minority all of the time. In my program I was 1 of 6 African Americans, and no other ethnic group represented in a class of 62 students! The whole college was predominately white so that should tell you something. We are not trying to separate ourselves the OP wanted to connect with other black nurses and there's nothing wrong with that. And the thing about you starting thread "looking for fellow white nurses" you really don't need to because most of these threads/forums are of/from white nurses.

how do you know these forums are mostly "white nurses" is there a thread that states it?
I am a white nurse with a learning disability. I wish my only troubles were people thinking I was a CNA when I wasn't.
This thread offends me!

ok but past is a past...have you lived the past? or you just talking "stories"? right now you have as many rights as anyone else..should we all live in the past...i dont think it is good for our mental health..there were many bad things that happend in the past...shall all the new generation og jews and polish hate germans because of the past, should polish hate russian for the past, should russian hate germans, should french hate english or maybe english should hate french, should ecquador hate peru or peru should hate equador? or maybe native indian should hate the new generation of european american because their ancenstors did horrible things in the past?? do you actually think that black had the worse out of all?? tell this to the native indians who were killed during colonial time, all this to polish of whom 8 milions were murdered by russians, yes not enslaved but murdered..i'm not trying to discount your experiences but ever nation had suffer lesser or greater tragedies... but to according to you only your race suffered the most cruelty (and that to me is racist iteself) if you want to be succesful in nursing the cards are in your hands...just please forgive in your heart, your life will be much peaceful then.
ok this is really off subject here but can you take the time to research black history in this country? i mean really research it, slavery, jim crow, racial profiling, civil rights movement. and especially research willie lynch and you will see why racism against blacks is still alive and well today. we are not the only race that suffers but it seems as if everyone else wants to remind us of our suffering as you did in your post. this thread was started to network and to vent but people are always saying who cares. when people post these negative post saying to suck it up and get over it to me that shows they could care less what we minorities have to go through on a daily basis. the french, english, russians, etc could blame things on their past history but are they always being reminded of it every day of their lives? no. i can not even begin to tell you what i as a minority nurse and a minority in general have gone through. and who said that we were the only race that has suffered the most cruelty? no one said that because that is not true. how can the cards be in our hands? as soon as we walk in the door to a patient's room we lost that card. how would you feel if someone said i want a real nurse, or even though you tell a patient my name is so and so and i will be your nurse today and take the time to write your name on the staff board and they still ask for their nurse and they are a and o x 4! or you have done your assessment, passed meds, have rn plastered all over your badge, told them you are their nurse and they tell you to ask the non-minority nurse aid who they think is their nurse that they want a sleeping pill? i am not trying to pick a fight here but you have no idea. no idea.
but back to the topic. i would love a minority section. and it would be useful to everyone on this board because it will help non-minority nurse relate better to minority nurse and you will have a sense of what we go through because our skin is not white.

I know of a white nurse who has yellow teeth, stringy hair, and acne scars misplaced for a "drugie"...she gets the same treatment. Should we start a new thread for her?

I've heard similiar sitations as this before... and it must feel bad...I totally agree! But if it bothered me this much, I would spend my energy asking to speak to the administrator to see if changes could be made. Like what? New admits seeing a video in their room of what to expect with a hospital stay. Just an idea.
Lol at blackheartnurse. Im pretty sure if you're an RN, as the OP, you surely have kept it moving! All the way through school, across the stage and at work for twelve hours at a time.
I was thinking about some topics we could have in the minorities section if one is opened.
1. An introduce yourself thread. What your back story is and how you found the path of nursing and how you are or have accomplished it.
2. A "To future nurses" thread---that I would so benefit from. Im just doing my pre-reqs now.
3. A "How do you spend your free time" thread
Those are just some beginning ideas. I reported one of the really rude posts and in the report requested for a minority section. I really don't see how that's asking to much or offensive. It's not "us" against "them". Heck "them" is my irish father and I loooove him lol.

If this thread offended you then why click on it. It seems as though this thread is offensive to some white people. Why? Did you know that there is a Native American thread on this site? Does that offend you? Have you or the other people that have a problem with this thread posted in their thread in the same way? I doubt it. Of course this is not blacknurses.com because if it were there would be no problem:yeah:.
Is it not possible that as big a this website is that there is room here for everyone to share commonalities, experiences, etc. with each other without someone having a problem because certin people want to talk/network with people who understands their frustrations, experiences, joys, or whatever the case may be. This has become a "us against them" kind of thread instead of what is was meant for. Pretty soon you all may have your wish as this thread may be closed and a minority section may not be added and that is sad and unfortunate.
