try veeb which is in Long Island....or try outside the state NJ has some good LPN schools.

I live in Yonkers, NY and I was wondering if anybody here went to the Southern Westchester BOCES and took the LPN program there? That is where I am planning to enroll for their Fall '09 program. It will be a 20-month evening program, since I will be working durring the day to pay the tuition. But, anyway I just wanted to know if it's worth taking the course there or should I just go to a community college?

Thanks,

Hi, in response to your question, i just was accepted into the Southern Westchester BOCES program. Seems like they are organized. I attend orientation the last week in August and start in September. When I received my acceptance letter, they sent us homework...online to do. Here is the site: www.msklpnstudysite.com. I am doing the day program and working 21 hours at my job. I wish you the best of luck. Let me know if you need any other information.

Take care!

Hi Savay

Not a problem. Glad you registered for the the LPN prep. Are you going to the BOCES Westchester site? I know what u mean about being out of school. It was rough at first. But study every nite, even if it is two hours. Orientation is coming soon....i'm nervous, excited, scared that my brain is getting old (LOL). But I'm gonna keep on praying and staying positive! I'll keep you posted of my adventures. Are you going during the day? Let me know. If I can help...give me an email holla!

Take care...

Yes, I am going to the Southern Westchester BOCES site. I am going in the evening, I work during the day at a doctors office. I'm a medical assistant and I also hold a NYS CNA certification. But, yeah good for you.:balloons: Will you be pursuing an RN degree later down the road?

Oh, I was also curious what is the interview process like....what kinds of questions were asked....that sort of thing?

Anyway, I'll talk with you soon. Don't get nervous you'll do fine.....you'll do GREAT. Have a posivtive attitude.

I'm attending SW BOCES now during the day program. Let me know if you any question regarding the interview process.

Hi Im new to this forum. Interested in going to Lauguardia for the nursing program. Not sure which track LPN or RN. How long was the waiting list for you? I'm sure it is more now? Did you like the school? It is very close to me, and I work two days a week. Do you think it is possible to stay working two days a week? Also, is the LPN program accredited? And does it save you time when you enter the RN program? I may be moving in the next 2 years so I thought that doing the LPN would be safer, at least if anything happens I can still work. I really want to do the RN program, but not sure how these credits transfer

I'm not sure about the Lauguardia or how long the waiting list is. There are a few people in my group that are doing the LPN and will continue for the RN program after they work a while. Since LPN is not accredited, so you might might want to looking into if Laguardia is or not. Some school or RN program will take your LPN license & work experiences and will accept you into their program for RN so that way you don't have to repeat some of the classes. But you must maintane 85 average in all your classes plus pass their test in order to get in for the RN program.

I'm working only on the weekend & sometime find it hard to find more time to study. You really have to be committed to do this to make it work. I'm in class Monday - Wed. 8:30am - 2:30pm & on Thurs. & Friday in hospital or nursing home from 8am-2pm.

I find it mentally draining when I get home from school that I can't even keep my eye open to read. Tests are given just about every other week back to back.

Some school offer night program for LPN but it takes 2yrs to finish & some have a long waiting list like BCC. You have to pass there test.

I won't want to discourage you, just ask around & find out which will work for you.

Good luck
