Looking back

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I was just looking at my porfolio from school and I got an A. The short term goal was to pass nclex the first time. My long term goal was to go for my masters in midwifery. I said to my self I can't give up. I also wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. I did good in OB in school. I'm not going to give up on my dreams. Even though I took nclex 9 times It really hurts. The tears that I have shed. Since I was a little girl I always w antdd to be a nurse.

I agree with the above posters. My school holds nclex review for free that is taught by the same instructors that we had during the program. A school should really want to help you succeed unless they are going for pure profit and your success means nothing. I really don't understand how you were able to pass the program without the proper skills

^^^Agree.

Kemifair, you stated the various options you have done on various posts on AN, and YET you still have a difficult time with the BASIC foundation of what is required to be a nurse. I agree to go back to your school and get their assistance. You will have to go through a RN refresher course with clinical skills and theory. Do not waste another dime on taking the NCLEX without getting the fundamentals of what is required: Critical thinking and nursing judgement skills.

I had a co-worker who failed the NCLEX and worked as a tele tech for almost TWO years before she was forced to take the NCLEX again-my job said she was going to be "let go" if she didn't take the test and pass. She went through a RN refresher course, got a tutor for the NCLEX and passed. She not only kept her job, she worked in the floor as a RN.

You owe it to YOU to combat this...go back to your school, find resources for a nursing refresher course FIRST before you do ANYTHING ELSE.

Thank u everyone but I don't need a refresher course I spent enough money on review. I know my content I just need to apply it.

You failed the NCLEX 9 times and have gone through 3 review courses, and yet you still feel you do not need a refresher course? Honestly, no one can help you if you are not willing to help yourself. Continuing to use the same study methods that you have for the last 9 times will only continue to yield the same results. Nothing will change.

If you are weak in test taking and critical thinking skills, a refresher course may benefit you. You keep spending all this money to re-take the NCLEX over and over, why not invest some of that money into a good refresher course that may actually help you pass the exam.

You say you know your content and need to apply it, so why haven't you done that the last 9 times? It's because you do not know how to apply it, if you did, you wouldn't have struggled the way you have. Instead of thinking that you can continue doing the same thing over and over, yet keep expecting different results, you should take the advice of some of the other members here and drastically change your methods. This includes contacting your school for possible resources, and investing in a good refresher course. Obviously the methods you have tried in the past have not worked, it's time to do something different.

I don't think anyone was trying to be mean.....they were responding with their ideas on what you need to do to pass the boards after trying 9 times. Some states require a refresher after x amount of tries because the in formation does become stale. The cadence of your typing is unusual even for texting.....unless your school is closed I would contact them and ask for their opinion/advice. I would also check into refreshers that emphasize test taking strategies....your school may have some suggestions.

Have you ever been tested for test anxiety or comprehension issues? That may give some insight as to the mental block that plagues you.

I wish you the very best.

The nclex questions are based on Blooms Taxonomy. Nursing is all about application and analyzing, If you can't apply your nursing knowledge and skills you shouldn't be a nurse. And it's nice that you think god will help you but the reality is only you can help your self. It's not mean that I'm saying this, it's honesty and if you can't handle it you need to toughen up.

I know everyone is trying to help ..... I am refresh I dont need refresher.

In previous posts, you mentioned you know your content very well, don't need a refresher, and graduated with a BSN in 2008, yet failed NCLEX RN, 9 times so far.

I would suggest performing an in-depth, honest, non-biased self-assessment, because there's an exponential disconnect somewhere and you need to identify and address this first now, before taking another exam. Additionally, once you've identified what it is that's hindering your success, work extremely hard in overcoming this deficit.

All the best in your endeavors!
