I graduated in may 2012 and have been searching non stop for an RN job ever since. I have my BSN, ACLS, and PALS yet I've only been able to get three interviews to no avail. The last two I went on were within the last two months and they expressed that the fact I graduated more than a year ago didn't make me look too appealing.
My question is: how long is too long in terms of graduating and getting hired? i don't want to give up, but i feel like a should.

Are you looking at rural hospitals? What about rehab facilities? Community health clinics, long term care, prisons, etc. There are lots of other options out their for new grads besides just the hospital so you may need to expand your search to other areas

Never give up never quit!
moved to job hunt assistance for best results:)
i've applied everywhere. even in multiple states. It's been somewhere between 1000-2000 jobs.
Hmm. Is there anything in your resume that might cause them to overlook you? Or, is there anything positive that sets you apart you aren't emphasizing (ie, foreign language, worked as a paramedic, volunteer work)

I agree - as long as you need/want a job keep at it. I am a seasoned nurse and am in the same position as you...interviewing, not hearing back, or hearing back and the job has been canceled or gone to someone else that is already working at the facility or is more qualified in some way..what I don't understand is how not working makes one less appealing to an employer - to me - if someone has been trying to get hired then the employee is more likely to not take the job for granted. The idea that all hospitals are hiring, all home healths are hiring, all long term cares are hiring is not the case - at least not where I live. I have one interview later this week - if it doesn't work out then I have no choice but to start applying to places over an hour from where I live. I'm working now but it is not enough by a long shot. Keep on applying - I know it disheartening but you never know..good luck. I hope you land something soon.
theres plenty. i have two bachelors. one in biology then second in nursing. i speak spanish and russian. I've attained my BLS, ACLS, and PALS. I'm going to workshops for extra learning. i honestly think part of the reason is the fact i graduated over a year ago

I think you are stuck in a very hard situation as no experience, but no longer a new grad. I would look into non-hospital jobs and try to network with anyone and everyone who might have a lead.

We do have a forum that is targeted at those with questions about job hunts. The forum offers hints and tips from fellow nurses who have been thorough similar job-hunting struggles.
Do we go out and find you a job? Regrettably, no: we are not a headhunter or placement service. We only offer advice and support.
We do have a Jobs section with job listings...however it like a nursing/healthcare job search engine. Also, we have no involvement in the hiring process--we merely post the listings.
