Hi, just wanted to start a post about my process of applying at lonestar. Hope to hear from other applicants! I have just taken my HESI and will be applying for the spring semester with a score of 11.54
I applied to Cyfair first, Kingwood second. My HESI was 88.8% and I have completed all of my pre-req's except for Pharm with a good GPA. Kingwood Nursing Director confirmed just a few hours ago via email that it is strictly based on the application score and score alone. I am waiting to hear back about what the discrepancy might be.
There is no discrepancy in regards to being selected, being selected as an alternate, being put on the wait-list, or being outright denied. As mentioned, the selection process is based off of score and score alone, so statistically, if you have 200 students apply and they all have for example, an 11.33 or above, the top 50 students get selected, the next 50 are alternates, the rest wait-listed or denied if they fell far below the score cut-off.
Unlike other schools that convene a selection board and external factors have influence on the decision making process; Lone Star is just the numbers. On the bright side, a fair number of alternates usually get called up because students will have accepted another slot in a different program, I know several LVN alternates who started day 1 this year. Hell, I know of students who were selected but just dropped the ball and let the opportunity pass. Regardless if you're selected or listed as an alternate, follow through with the admission criteria, the background checks, vaccinations, orientations, etc and be ready. Worst case scenario, you have to reapply for the next class and your CertifiedBackground is already to go (Maintains its status for 1 year).

That's what I mean about them looking at something else. I was told by my anatomy prof. That someone with all As didn't get in once and someone with lower scores did. It's very strange and odd how things work.....
