Lonestar College Cyfair ADN Fall 2010

Published

:lol2: Congratulations to everyone who received their acceptance letters for the ADN program at Cyfair for 2010! :lol2:

Can't wait to meet you all! So, what now lol?

How is the grading scale different exactly?

Kaybee24,

Here's the grading scale from the student handbook for Tomball. Pretty basic...

The scale for determining a letter grade in Associate Degree Nursing program is:

A 90 - 100

B 80 - 89

C 70 - 79

D 60 - 69

F Below 60

This thread is old, but is this still the grading scale?

100-93 is an A

92-83 is a B

82-75 is a C

That's the one that I've seen before. Makes me nervous.

Congrats to all that made it...

Actually, Cyfair uses the same grading scale as the other lone star colleges. It changed about a year or two ago when the college became part of the lone star system.

Btw... anything lower than a 70% is considered failing, so there is no difference between a D or an F.

Thanks, Creolefromtheboot!! That makes me feel so much better!

Well that's good to know about the grading scale changing.

So, pcrn2012, does that mean you've made a decision? :D

Uuuuggghhh!!! No! Such angst! :hdvwl:

I feel for you! I was feeling that same way when I was applying, so I kind of get it. I thought that might have been you that just joined the FB group, so I thought maybe you made a decision. Is your gut leaning one way, but your head keeping you from making the choice? I tend to do that, and I've found that as hard as it may be, if I stick with my first instinct things usually work out better. And I don't think you can make a bad decision either way.;)

Hi All,

I am currently a student at Lonestar Cy Fair. I just finished my first semester and am about to embark on my first semester of clinicals this summer in Med Surg I. I understand some of you have questions about the program itself and what it is like. Here are my two cents:

The program is tough...yes that's true, but if you have done your research you know that all nursing schools are tough. The instructors are pretty brutal but if you stay 'under their radar' you will do fine. They make you work and push your limits and might even make you cry but just remember that you will be the bigger person if you show up the next day no matter what. You hit the ground sprinting...not running from day 1...be prepared to have to read up to 100 pgs before the next class meeting. A lot of the skills learning is done on your own as there is not much teacher demonstration in lab. If you are prepared, however, they are more than willing to lend you a hand if you have any questions. The tests are different than any kind you've ever taken in your life (I already have my bachelors degree and have never experienced tests like this before). You have 4 practicums your first semester which are very nervewracking. This is when the professors try to 'test' you. There are several math tests that are miss +1 you fail and have to take it again before progressing through the semester. I know it sounds tough and I'm not gonna lie, it is, but if you are serious and passionate about nursing it is totally worth it and completely doable. I have a 2 yr old and a 5 yr old so I have managed to make it thus far with all of that also. Cy fair has a reputation for being much harder than other lonestar programs and I believe that's true, but if you manage to make it through the program and pass your boards you also have a reputation of knowing your stuff b/c Cy fair produces some extremely competent nurses. I personally like the blocked curriculum and couldn't really imagine it doing it any other way. All of our skills are front loaded, meaning we learned 50+ clinical skills in skills lab the first semester and so when we actually go to the hospitals in Med Surg I, we can do a lot more than other nursing students b/c we've been checked off on things like foleys, irrigations, ng tubes, etc.

I will let yall know what I think after my first clinical lol....

I say go for it...take the challenge so when you do succeed you will feel that much more proud of yourself for surviving this program!
