So, I couldn't help myself and looked up the classes for first semester. Based on what's in the catalog and what's up for the fall course schedule, it looks like our schedule will be-
Monday- 9-11:30 or 12:30-3 (Health Assessment 8/30-12/19)
Tuesday- 9-11:30 or 12:30-3 (Nursing Skills I 8/30-10/22 & Nursing Skills II 10/26-12/19)
Wednesday- 9-11:30 or 12:30-3 (Nursing Skills I 8/30-10/22 & Nursing Skills II 10/26-12/19)
Thursday- 8-12 or 12:30-4:30 (Intro to Nursing 8/30-10/22)
Online- Legal and Ethical Issues for Nurses 10/25-11/21
I really want the a.m. set, but Intro to Nursing is going to have me scrambling. I can't drop my son off at school until 8:25 and he gets out at 3:45, so I have a conflict with a.m. and p.m. Guess I'll be looking into the before and after school program at his school. Man, the costs just rack up don't they? Thank God for loans...
And just in case people start joining this thread without seeing the other one--I started a Facebook group for our class. It's set as private, so we can plan meetups, study groups, etc. without the entire web being able to see. I don't really expect it to get going until we get closer to orientation, but figured I'd get it started. Here's the link-

Now that the wait for acceptance letters is over, I guess we're on to the wait for July 14th.... Let's hope this one is less stressful.
Lilag I'm so glad you found the schedule, gives us all an idea of what to expect. I'm aiming for morning classes too, I just feel like I'm so much more productive if I have early classes.
I joined the Facebook group, it'll be nice for us all to communicate easily. I know I'm always checking on my phone and what not.
Yeah, I figured I'd save everyone else the time of doing it, since I was doing it anyway. I just needed to know so that I can get all my childcare lined up in plenty of time, and I imagine I'm not the only one.
I'm really not that big on FB, usually just get on there if I have a message from someone or something (my sis-in-law even asked why I'll get on for five minutes and then log right back off), but if my activity on here is any indication, I'm sure I'll be on there all the time in the not-so-distant future.

Hey Ya'll. I thought I would join this thread to get to know everyone and also for some helpful advice. I am worried that my Hep B vaccine will not be completed in time. I am due for my second shot this week and I do not think I will have the third one by the May 1st deadline. Did I read that correctly? I noticed the other campuses gave a July 1st deadline for their vaccinations. Is anyone going to take a CPR class soon?
My third shot isn't due until June, and I haven't heard back from my doctor's office about moving it to April, so I went by the nursing office today. In short, they said it's fine, as long as I've started it, but you may want to go by there just in case. You may also want to mention it when you get your second one, and see if they can give you the third one sooner.
Thangbom said that they told him CPR just needed to be done by the start of class, but I'm planning to do it after I finish with summer school (first session), so if I'm not mistaken that's the week before orientation. Which reminds me...I need to make sure that it's available that weekend. On the fall '09 thread someone recommended Instruction by Masters, so I'll probably go there. Might be nice to get a group to do it together, then we could meet up before orientation. Anyone interested?
Candy_82 I have a similar problem, but I'm just going to go by Lilag's advice and stop by the nursing office tomorrow. I'll post a response when I have an answer.
Lilag, I'm interested in the CPR class it'd be nice to meet everyone before class starts.
I just checked the website, and it says that the schedule is changing April 1st, so I'll check dates again after that. The price is $40-45 without the book, $60-65 with it. Not too bad, I don't think.
I'm sort of dreading the finger printing. I did it for my real estate license and ended up driving to 59 & Buffalo Speedway...yuck! I hate driving in traffic, so it really made me crazy. Wish they could just use the old one.
Thanks for the help. I think I am going to have to call since I work and live a little farther out. I have my second shot scheduled for early next week. I started them on Feb 23, my birthday present to myself :).
As far as the CPR class, I am going to go ahead and take it with my brother who is attending the Fire Science program at Cy-fair. I am probably going to search for something around our area, near Memorial City. It would be fun to meet before orientation. Maybe we can arrange something.
And if I have this correct, we can take Pharm at any other Lone Star campus? Just not Cy-Fair? It is a bit confusing.
LOL...What a birthday present!
Here's the website for the CPR class I'm planning to take (not too far from Memorial City)-

Let me see if I can explain the pharm thing, without getting tongue-tied. Most LSC colleges' course number is 1301 and can be taken by anyone, Cyfair's is 1201 and only available to nursing students. Until last semester I believe, if a student took 1301 before starting the program, they had to pass some crazy hard pharm test to receive credit for it. If they didn't pass, they had to take 1201 anyway along with nursing classes, so most just chose to wait. Recently, they eliminated the test and a course substitution form was filled out to sub 1301 for 1201. Come fall, Cyfair's pharm will change to 1301, but it's online only (based on the classes already up for fall). I don't know if that will change once we are supposed to take it or not, but I hate online classes, so I decided to take it this summer. I'd also like to just get it out of the way now, so that I can focus on nursing classes when the time comes.
I hope that makes sense...it's how it was explained at the info sessions. I still don't understand why the courses were different to begin with, but since that is changing I guess it doesn't matter anymore.
I definitely want to meet up with people before orientation...maybe a happy hour after finals or something. Margaritas always make for a good ice breaker!
Candy_82, I went by the nurses office to ask about the Hep B shots. From what I understand they want the documentation that you've begun the shots on May 1st, the deadline line for completing the series of Hep B shots is July 1st. (I believed this was also debated on the Lonestar ADN 2010 Hopefuls thread as to what was listed on the Lonestar website). Again, this is confusing because it's different than from what was included in our letters. The letters state that proof of complete Hep B immunizations is needed.
I began my shots on February 18th and have already taken my second shot and am in the process of finding out how early I can scheduled my third shot. I'm hoping that I can schedule the final shot earlier so that I can submit my documentation asap.
Thanks for the help! I was so busy at work today with chemos I could not get a break to call the Nursing dept. Before I knew it, it was time to head home!
But you know that is exactly what I read on the website, completed by July 1st. So of course I freaked when out letter stated different. I knew starting it in Feb would give me plenty of time to complete the series. Ok, well like you, I am also going to inquire about speeding my last injection up.
