Congratulations to everyone who received their acceptance letters for the ADN program at Cyfair for 2010!
Can't wait to meet you all! So, what now lol?
Kaybee- Thanks for posting that, I hadn't heard that before. I actually had a Hep B/Hep A combo, so I wonder if that means that I can do it sooner. I still haven't heard back from my doctor's office.
Are you guys planning to wait to turn in your letters of intent until your shots are done? I'm not sure if I should turn everything else in now, or just turn it all in at once.
I am going to wait until the end of the week to submit my letter of intent. I am still waiting on UT to give me a yes or no. Although I do not have the 'gut feeling' I got in there like I did with Cy-Fair. I knew this was my year and honestly any one is great!
I have not heard of the Hep B/A vaccine? I was told when I was given my first injection that it would be six weeks after that for my 2nd, and then six weeks after that for my 3rd. All I asked for was the Hep B vaccination for Nursing School and my doctor said 'Ok, be right back'. She never questioned anything. Maybe I should have asked questions, but honestly I did not know there was more than one. Its like the Flu vaccine to me, you ask for that and thats what you get. Right??
When I went to start the Hep B series, my doctor mentioned that Hep A is becoming more of a problem (probably from the lack of a vaccination) and that he wouldn't be surprised if it became a requirement soon. He gave me the option of doing the combo shot or just Hep B. The combo is given for the first and third shot, and Hep B only for the second one. It was a little more expensive, but still less than doing them separately. Since there is a chance that it'll become required, I went ahead and did it even though at the time I didn't know whether or not my insurance would cover it.
I turned in my letter of intent and the authorization to release records form. I also did my background check today, it was really simple and probably took less than ten minutes. I went to the Southwest Freeway location and paid for it online before I went 45 bucks. No waiting they just fingerprint and take your picture. You receive a receipt at your visit and another one in the mail when the school receives/is sent your background check.
I also noticed some other people had turned in their letters of intent. No rush it's not due til May 1st, but it sure feels good to turn it in

Did you turn in proof of your Hep B shots that you've already done and your receipt for the background check, as well? I want to go turn in my letter of intent but don't want to be told to come back and turn everything in at once.
Candy- Have you heard anything from UT yet? I'm thinking of ya girl! Not that I don't want you with us, but I know that if I already had all of the pre-reqs for the BSN, I'd rather get straight to it since I plan to eventually get at least my MSN.
**Disclaimer- I have nothing against ADN programs at all--Cyfair has been my first choice for years and I can't even express how thrilled I am at the chance to get my degree there!:)
Thanks, Kaybee! I'll drop of my intent to enroll and release today then. I still haven't heard back from my doctor's office about moving up my last Hep B/A shot, so I think I'm going to stop by while I'm out. That way if they won't move it up, I can at least get proof of my first two to turn in. I don't want to risk losing my spot in anyway, so I want to get it all turned in ASAP. Though I have to wait until I get paid tomorrow to schedule my fingerprinting, so I suppose I'll still have to stop by the office at least twice more. I hope they don't get too tired of my face so soon. Ok, ramble over.
Thought I would share some information! I just received my 2nd vaccination. I was told that the plan is as follows:
After the first injection you wait one month for the second. After the second injection wait 3-4 months. So basically six months after the first injection, and it would be ok to move it up by a couple of weeks.
I was also told by K. Monteiro (spelling) as long as we have completed the series by the start of the program we would be ok!
Hope this helps :)

Aww ya'll are sweet for the support. But I still have not heard anything. I just dont have the "I got in" feeling like I did with Cy-Fair. And, like ya'll, I have planned on attending Cy-Fair for the past couple of years. I went out on a limb and applied to UT not thinking anything of it. But when I got an interview I freaked out!! I know that I was at least able to beat out the 1500+ students that applied and didnt even get an interview. UT would have been good, but I am perfectly content with my acceptance Besides I have yet to see an RN with their school of graduation attached to their neck. All says is (Your name here) RN!! I am getting excited now :) Its FINALLY Starting to sink in...
No kidding? 1500 applicants?! Wow, just getting an interview is an accomplishment in and of itself!
So, since I have already had my second shot, I can't move up the last one. I went ahead and got the proof of the first two and dropped it off along with my intent to enroll and release of records. When I dropped off my papers, I explained that I was going by July 1st based on the website, so I've only had two and my last one is scheduled for June. She (which one usually has her back to the door? She wasn't wearing a name tag, but I know I'm going to need to know them!) said that they realized that many people would be going by that date but wanted to keep the dates as simple as possible for the acceptance letters. Whew...no more stressing about that shot!
Now all I've got to do is get my fingerprinting done, and I'm done for the May 1st deadline. :) It's sinking in y'all! We're going to be student nurses!!!! Now that the acceptance wait is over, I'm so ready for July 14th to get here, so I can start rounding up my books and supplies!

Candy_82, I called and checked where I've been getting my Hep B series. They said they couldn't give me the third shot any sooner than six months after the first. The nurse I spoke to sounded very knowledgeable and said that there is a Hep B that can be done in less than 3-4 months but it's a HepB/HepA combination shot. Alot of help that does us, but it may be helpful to anyone lurking. The regular Hep B takes six months. I'm going to go back to the nursing office and try to talk to Ms. Montiero and get a definite answer. I really regret starting the Hep B series, when I should have probably just had a titer done. Oh well.
