Published

:lol2: Congratulations to everyone who received their acceptance letters for the ADN program at Cyfair for 2010! :lol2:

Can't wait to meet you all! So, what now lol?

ok, i just called and the lady that picked up said all i needed was to give them a copy of my receipt. Can a 2nd person confirm this?

so far i have turned in:

1. app. of intent

2. app of release

3. copy of shot records (including completed hep b)

4. copy of receipt from L1 (background check), I have already called the L1 place and they confirmed that they have sent the result to the school

The only other things that are needed but will be reviewed during the interview are:

1. textbook

2. physical examination

3. CPR

4. course info

So am I done? I can just wait for the july orientation now?

ohh and i found the nursing student handbook on the site. i may read that now.

Thanks in advance

I was told the same thing Thangbom. And now we just wait...again. Anyone else tired of the waiting yet? This semester has just seemed to drag on and on with all of this waiting. I know that once we get going, I'll probably be begging for a break, but man, I'm so ready to start!

What are everyone's plans for the summer? Anyone going to try to do some reviewing? I think after I finish pharm, I'm just going to try to get our guest room setup for me to use for studying (the couch probably ain't gonna cut it anymore!:zzzzz), start stocking up on supplies, and getting my house organized. Basically, I want to make things run as smoothly as possible. I'll probably go over a few mechanisms and fluids & electrolytes a bit, too, since those are the ones that I've seen mentioned. Other than that, I want to spend as much time as possible with my husband and kids, because from the sounds of it, there won't be much of that going on in the near future.

lilag I'm so with you, I'm ready to get started. Seems like July is so far away lol.

I've thought that some review would probably do me some good, but I'm kind of at a loss of where to start. I think you have some good suggestions though, I've downloaded some A&P podcasts off of itunes but haven't taken the time to listen to them yet. Got my study room ready and I picked up one of those rolling backpacks. My friend who's already in the program strongly recommended one, dorky but necessary I guess :)

I've already got my rolling bag. I took A&P I, SOCI, and PSYC back to back last Spring and didn't have time to go to my car in between, so I sucked it up and got the dorky rolling bag. And my books still didn't all fit. It really wasn't bad except that I refused to use the elevator (gotta get my exercise where I can!), and it was a pain on the stairs.

Has anyone gotten their letter about the background check? As far as I know, I haven't, but my husband has an awful habit of pulling out the bills and throwing the rest in a massive pile on the desk, along with all of the kids' school papers. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow.

Hey Thangbom, when you can, will you find out when your nephew is going to be doing the CPR and how much it costs? One of the girls from school mentioned that her mom may be doing it again too. Good to know we have choices huh?:)

ohhh.. sorry about the late update, but here is the followup on my last post:

the top 4 is all you need to have in for now. She e-mailed and told me that i was good to go until the orientation. As for the CPR thing, i will ask him next time i catch him on FB.

Has anyone heard whether or not we're allowed to use smartphones? My husband and I have decided to jump on the bandwagon and upgrade our basic phone. I'd like to get one that I can download some of the nursing apps to, but I hate to shell out a bunch of money if I'm not going to be able to use it.

I haven't heard anything about smartphones, I have an ipod touch and it'd be nice if we were allowed to use them for school.

I just called to ask about the smartphones/PDA and spoke to Kathy, who checked with the director. There is no specific policy at this point in time, it is completely left up to the instructor as well as the individual clinical sites.

I think I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge and get the smartphone, since I'm not really keen on carrying around a phone and a PDA. Never mind that I don't really want to shell out an extra $200. From what I have read, most hospitals are allowing them as long as the phone is put into flight mode and no pictures are taken. If they don't allow it, then I suppose I'll just get a workout carrying the extra books. ;)

Kaybee- I can't imagine anyone not allowing the ipod touch, since it's not a phone. The only thing that may be an issue is if it has a camera on it, too (can't remember if it does or not).

Skyscape has some GREAT references for PDA's.. I downloaded the Lab Reference, the RN Notes, NCLEX review and a ton of other TRIAL books.. to determine what will be worth it and what won't ...

hey guys im brand new to allnurses. i made it into cyfair in the fall like the rest of you guys. what is everyone doing to prepare?
