Lonestar 2011 ADN Hopefuls

Published

I didn't see a thread on here for Fall 2011 applicants to the Lonestar nursing program, so I decided to start one.:) I will be applying to Montgomery as my first choice and am really nervous about taking the HESI test with all of the added components. I applied to Kingwood this past application period with an 11.5652 and got an alternate spot, competition was fierce. So, here I go again, hopefully I'll get in this time around. I'm really nervous about the A&P portion of the HESI. I feel like I've forgotten alot of what I learned. Any suggestions from anyone?

Good luck to all applying:)

I took my HESI exam for UT back in December. The Elsevier study guide is pretty helpful especially for the math and all the english sections. I didn't do as well as I wanted on the A&P sections. I would suggest studying for that section the most. I had just completed a A&P I and II refresher course that was very thorough and I still made an 80 on that section.

Good luck to everyone.

I hope to get into a program-which ever one will take me. I figured my Lone Star score chart and I think I only have an 11.5. I've called every campus to find out what last year's cut offs were and I think I can only get into North Harris with that kind of score. Not excited about that because it will be a very long drive for me-but at least I would get in!

reachin4thestars you have a good score, and you might get into montgomery too. I have an 11.64 and montgomery is closer to me, but I think I still want north harris to be my first choice because they have a bigger nursing program...I don't know if I am making the right decision though, goodluck to you

This is for those of you that have been asking questions about the HESI. I took mine on Saturday and my score for the English sections was 93.88% :yeah: That being said I barely passed the A&P section by 1 point!! No matter what some people say the A&P section is not all easy “common sense” questions. Some are basic knowledge, for example; Where is the buttocks located? A. Frontal B. Anterior C. Superior D. Dorsal. I also had several that were much more specific but I honestly can’t remember any of the exact questions. I thought it was interesting that you can choose any section to take first, in any order, from the home page. I was worried the most about the A&P(it’s only 30 q’s) so I took that 1st,. When you are finished with each section, your score appears immediately on the home page, and then you choose your next section to take. If you have the study guide, study the Vocab thoroughly, especially if that is your weakest area. Most words and phrases are straight from the book. The math I had was many ratio problems and I am weak there and really should have spent more time studying them, because I haven't had math in over a year. I went with a friend and she didn’t have any problems she whizzed through it in 3 hours, and made a 92 on the A&P, but it took me 4 ½ hours :uhoh3: If you’re slow like me, I don’t recommend going on a weekend when the testing center has limited hours. I took my time on all of the vocab, reading and grammar sections because I wanted to try and score well, but if I could do it again I would go on a regular day when I had 5 or more hours, so I wouldn’t have that pressure of time running out, that made me so nervous.

congrats! at least you passed!

anyway..im assuming the answer to the buttocks question is d. dorsal.. (i did process of elimination).. lol.

what else can you say about the a&p,grammar and vocab?..im scared about the a&p and vocab..

i heard the vocab from the evolve reach study guide wasnt really helpful...is that true?

math is a piece of cake for me..i got a 100 the last time..so it should be easy..

the reading for me is quite tricky..so i hope i do good on that this time..

I took the Hesi back in December and I used the Elsevier study guide.

Overall my scores were:

Math: 98%

Reading comprehension: 97.83%

Grammar: 94%

Vocabulary: 90%

Anatomy: 80%-this made me absolutely bummed. THIS should be a lot higher-especially for the degree and school I want!

Critical Thinking: 890

Overall score: 91.97%

Brush up on the basics like english and math and then study hard for the anatomy would be my advice.

Hi Louroque I suppose it depends on the questions you get on your HESI exam, because I know they all come from a test bank, but I had several on mine that were directly out of the study guide. For instance the word Labile (changing rapidly and often). I think I have a pretty good vocabulary but I had never heard of that word until I saw it in the study guide. Some of the words that I had in some of my vocab questions that I see in the study guide, are Concave and Patent, which they use as "Patentcy" in a hypothetical question about a nurse checking drain tubes for ? and Patentcy was one choice. What really helped me, and may also help you is the Reading section in the study guide. That is one of the sections that I really read well form the study guide and it also helped me in the vocab. It's only 3 1/2 pages long and I found the advice very helpful. As far as the A&P is concerned, I just went through my study guide and I personally didn't have a lot of questions from the practice questions there. They were similar, but not as basic as they are the book, except for the Buttocks/Dorsal question. I hope this helps :flwrhrts:

how did you study for the vocab section? just from the evolve reach study guide? or did you go on some site?

Yep those are all the reading comp titles. Geez, how the heck do you remember all those? Have you taken it before and they're still the same? I'm so tired now & heading to bed, but I'll try to think of some of the A&P questions I had and post tomorrow after school.

Hello all! I am also applying to Lonestar 2011 fall. My first choice is Cy-fair with north Harris as my second. If I calculated my points right, I have an 11.75 out of the 12 points needed. I'm very nervous about getting accepted :-/
