Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

So, I just tried to sign up for the fall online pharm class and they said I couldn't b/c I wasn't in the RN program yet :crying2:. It is a distance learning class through CyFair. I wonder if it is b/c it is a cyfair class. Drat. Did your advisor say anything about this??

Try searching for course number 1301. That is the pharm class offered at every other college except Cy-Fair. I am taking Pharm 1301 through Kingwood online this summer.

Cy-Fair's Pharm course number is 1201 and you are only able to register for it with instructor approval. The rule used to be that if you were getting into Cy-Fair's program you had to take their pharm class or if you took it elsewhere, you had to pass an impossibly hard pharm test. They have since changed the rules and they will accept the pharm class from other campus's.

Are you doing the 6 week course? I have another class I need to take this summer and doubt I could handle both. So I will probably do Pharm in the fall w/o any other classes. It is a full semester long.

I edited above and was able to sign up for a course, but it isn't 100% online. It says it is a Hybrid. thanks!!

I hope the changes to the Lonestar College entrance Hesi exam are not coming too soon .

Hi,Mks,1014 She said they are working on getting additional portions to the Hesi test approved, and she don't know when the change will take place.Yes it's good to only have to take the math and the reading ,but it will be harder to get in with the other requirements.I don't know if it will be added for both the LVN and ADN or just the ADN program .

Hey Michelle-

I'm glad you found an online Pharm class. I am trying to find the books on ebay so I don't have to pay an arm and a leg or my child's legs! Did you sign up for the N. Harris hybrid class? That's where I'm signed up for and I had emailed that prof about a month ago to ask which books we need. You can find them on ebay. If it's the same lady...kinda like the name of the theater, "Cinemark," then she said we would meet about 4-5x during the semester from 12-5pm. Other than those meeting days, the rest is online. I had to ask her because I work during the day and I needed to figure out when I needed off those particular days.

Oh, and are you taking the Lifespan with the same prof that teaches 2301 at Montgomery?

There's also a class at Kingwood that is at night on Tues. from like 7-10pm? Not sure, but a friend of mine is signed up for that class. The more I can do online, the better for me...and I'm sure you as well.

Are you doing pharm in the fall?

I signed up for the Kingwood class at 7pm for the fall (the one your friend is in??). The teacher is TBA, so crossing my fingers it is a good professor!!! I'm assuming it will be similar where we will only meet about 5x during the semester. I'm considering the NHC class as well, but the other one works better for me. There is also class at Tomball from 6-9 on Wednesdays I am also considering.

The lifespan class is at Houston Community College and is all online. It starts one week before the Micro refresher. My friend took this class already and I'm crossing my fingers I can get a lot done that first week. This is my last week of the A&P refresher, yay!!!

Hey Michelle-

Yes, I am signed up for the N. Harris Pharm class instead of the Kingwood. My work is about 2 miles from the NH campus, so I figured that when I have to go to the classroom I can bolt out of work and go. I had already emailed the lady at N. Harris and I found the books on ebay for $10 and the Dosage Calculations for $6!! I emailed the lady for the 6wk summer class and asked her which books were required and they are not the same as N. Harris. I don't understand why all the programs can't use the same book...and older editions at that! The Kingwood prof doesn't have any reviews on the rating site because I think she's new. There is another prof that teaches Pharm and Psych (I think) and she doesn't have the best reviews (Kingwood). Hopefully the Tues pm class will be good...my friend is signed up for that class, I'll have to tell him to be on the look-out for you! His wife went through the program about 3 years ago (when it was only MW)

Yay for the last week of your refresher! Just one more thing to check off your list. I talked with CyFair about the Micro refresher and they said that they would like to have at least 5 people in order to have the class. I looked today and 3 people are signed up already...so if I sign up and you do as well, we will have our 5 people!! I really just want to have Pharm to concentrate on in the fall so I can gear up for, HOPEFULLY, the spring!!

Good luck with 2314...if it's the same guy, then you will be fine! I almost took him there but then that lady came up for the minimester and I couldn't refuse since HCC would be out-of-district for me.

kyla.ann - have you signed in to your class yet?? Maybe you can show us your syllabus?!

Just a word of caution on the CE MicroBiology class as a refresher. I went on Saturday to register for this at CyFair and they said it wouldn't count to refresh Micro Biology. I also called Admissions at Tomball this morning to try and confirm and they said it does NOT work as a refresher. The A&P does but not Micro. If you all can get confirmation from someone that it WILL work, let me know who you spoke to or if you have to get special permission or something because I would DEFINITELY rather go that route that have to go every Mon and Wed this Fall.

quick reply here....i contacted valerie at kingwood and she said that is the correct course. i haven't signed up for it yet, but plan too. they better take it b/c it is $393!!!! :)

kmbrlyw - That's weird that they wouldn't let you register. If you go to the Lonestar website and look at the Nursing Program, it has a link where it shows the Biology Refresher. It shows on there to take CSCIT 2101301, which is the same as the CE code on the My Records.

When I met with my advisor at Kingwood (on May 25), she said that the Kingwood campus DOES NOT offer a CE class for Micro and that I'd have to take it at NH or another campus.

Are you trying for Kingwood campus? Maybe CyFair and Tomball have different requirements, but from the website it shows that you can refresh that way.

I would go speak with your advisor for sure, but the one at Kingwood said it was fine.

I was just looking on the NH Nursing Website...I had no idea that they are offering a "One-Day-A-Week" ADN Program!! Holy cow...wonder how that works

Jennifer, I know! I wish it started in the Spring, but I think it is only offered in the Fall. I wonder if this coming Fall semester is the first time they are offering it? I wonder if any of the online programs (kingwood's or this NH one) has online lectures. I just do not do as well w/ online classes as I do with listening to someone speak. I actually have been watching a lot of A&P lectures on youtube to help me with these online classes I've been taking :)
