Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.
I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?
mks1014 - I thought the same thing about the days. I went last week to meet with my advisor and she wrote down the schedule to expect and it was MTW (either day or night 5 hrs) My friend's wife did only MW but that was about 3 years ago. I guess they changed it...I was thinking about going to the info session as well. I've been once before, but maybe I can address that again. Not that it matters, I guess..but I'd like to know.
I work part time, but full time Mommy! I don't know how I will manage it all either. Mommies have special powers to multi-task ...I hope! I have an Animal Science degree that has yielded me nothing...well, except a lifetime supply of hamburger meat and excellent farming skills :)
Oh, and don't forget to get your Hep B vaccination! I started my series last week...and it showed on the new application paper that your series HAD to be completed BEFORE December 1, 2010. Even if you are admitted and you don't have the series finished, you don't get to be in the program.
The only fear I have about the online program is that you don't get that "one on one" time to ask questions and feel "part" of the program. My friend started the BSN at UTMB and she practically lives and breathes the program and is tunnel vision...she doesn't have kids, so she can do it. But she also has a mortgage to pay and she is downtown from 6am-7pm M-F. Crazy, I don't know how I will be able to skip away for a few hours for lecture?
Let me know if you happen to go tomorrow. I really want to go as I have a few other questions, but will hopefully be able to go in July.
Re: Hep B series. It does state --Hepatitis B series (3 immunizations in 6 months) completed or proof of immunity via a titer. I have proof of immunity from my job, but just wanted to double check what I have is what they are wanting. I am not sure who to ask about this??
Yes, Mommy's are amazing. I just don't know emotionally how I can be away from my daughter 3 nights a week since I will be at work during the day!! That is one reason why an online program would be nice. I agree with you though, there is something encouraging about going to class and being around other students.

Hey Michelle - I ended up not going to the info session because I waited at the health clinic for my Hep B shot and it took too long. But I will definitely be at the July 7 info session ALONG with turning in my application!! Hopefully you will be there as well?!
I know what you're saying about being away from your daughter. My daughter will be starting kindergarten and I'm not happy about it! Being away for just a few hours makes me cringe.
Have you taken Pharm 1301? I'm signed up for an online class in the fall, but I may change to the night class at Kingwood that shows 7-9pm on Tues. I would like to try and take it this summer and get it over with so I have a "free" fall semester IF I get accepted to the program.
I should be at the 7/7 session!
I have not taken Pharm yet. I still have to take some classes...either repeat micro or take the refresher (I'm in the A&P 1 refresher right now) and lifespan. My psyc class didn't transfer from undergrad. I am signed up to take psyc this summer and micro in the fall. Although, I've played around w/ a few scenarios in my head and thought about doing psyc in the fall, which would mean I could probably handle pharm. If we take pharm during RN school, when would we take it? If I take it, I would most likely take the online class.
Michelle
Yay, I will see you there on july 7!
You said you needed to repeat micro? I am refreshing as well and there is a CE class that starts july 19 - aug 20 or something. It's only 4 wks. I took the CE Anatomy class from the same prof and she's over at Cyfair. It's all online, but if it's anything like what it was like in her Anatomy CE course...you have to go each week for your exam at a testing center, which sucks because I'd rather take the test online so I'm not stuck with having to go to a testing center each week. She is very helpful. I emailed her about a month ago and she told me which book I needed and I found one on ebay for $6...yes, $6. Her tests are kinda hard but she curves your grade like 15pts every test. And to have a "P" on the CE class, you have to make like a 59avg on your grade.
That stinks your class didn't transfer...I had to retake my Psych class from 1996, but I had a good online teacher that teaches at Montgomery...easy A. I just finished Lifespan yesterday and I had a 100avg...also a Montgomery prof. I finished the class in 4 days because she let us work ahead and the 2 exams were open book.
I don't know when you would have to take Pharm if you don't take it before entering the program, but the advisor highly recommended that I get it out of the way before entering. WHEN we get accepted, we have to take some "pre-entrance" course that is about a week long from 8-3pm or so either during the Christmas Break or in Jan. before we start classes.
you know, maybe i will play around w/ my class schedule and take the CE micro refresher. i think the prof. you are talking about is the same one who is teaching my A&P class right now. the bad thing is i'm not sure my work will pay for it which is why i figured i would just repeat it in the fall and take it for free i won't know until i try to submit my A&P refresher course.
i didn't realize there was a 8-3pm class prior to the program. shoot....we always go out of town to visit family around that time!!!!
i can't believe you finished in 4 days, ha! so, was there a paper? did you have to go anywhere for the tests or did you take them at home? can we post professor names on here? if so, who is the prof. you are talking about?
thanks!!
I bet it is the same lady...I think she does all of the A&P and Micro Refresher courses. She's not too bad...just busy work and just taking those dang tests at the testing center. I just want to get the Micro out of the way before Fall so I can concentrate on Pharm and my child!
I think the class we have to take before entering is RNSG 1172 or 1209. I can't remember what the advisor wrote on my paper, but it's something like Intro to Nursing or Intro to Basic Care. Those show up on the class search but not for kingwood. The ones listed right now are like 8am-12 for 2 and 3 wks...and there's an 8 wk one but I don't think we can take them from anywhere, I think we have to take it at Kingwood. Not sure on that, but I would imagine that you would take it from the campus that you've been admitted. She specifically said that it would be offered in Dec and Jan before classes start.
Lifespan was such a breeze...I literally finished my 10 discussions in an hour, 1 paper (2-3pgs, double spaced in 12 font) written about another country's "emerging into adulthood" and how it differs from the US. No-brainer class...I don't think we can post names on here...but it's like what you find on the beach :)

hahhaa..ok, too funny. i know who you are talking about. i was actually signed up for her class, but switched when i decided to do the A&P refresher instead of repeat it :-) thanks!!!!!
what are your thoughts on taking lifespan and the micro refresher at the same time?
Glad you caught my drift! Aw, but I wish you would have been in that class...you would have a huge weight off your back.
I guess it depends on what the prof is like for Lifespan. I don't think it would have really been a difficult class if I had a different professor. Pretty much all of the ratings on those profs were decent. I just think her class was probably the best one for the least amount of work and brain power to get an A.
I'm not sure about the Micro...I know it will be hard with the prof and her tests anyway, but I would hate for you to be having to read so much with 2 classes. I think it would be manageable. I guess I'm more about comfort and ease especially when you have a job and kids to deal with...that's why I'm just going to do the Micro refresher so I don't have to worry about something else to "have to pass" in the fall along with Pharm.
Is your Lifespan prof at Montgomery?
So, I just tried to sign up for the fall online pharm class and they said I couldn't b/c I wasn't in the RN program yet . It is a distance learning class through CyFair. I wonder if it is b/c it is a cyfair class. Drat. Did your advisor say anything about this??
The Lifespan class is actually through HCC.
EDITING: so, i just tried a class that was not an online class and it seemed to have let me register. but i was really hoping to do it online

Jennifer, I didn't realize there were classes MTW, I thought it was MW. I have a friend who did the program a few years back and it was MW. Maybe they changed it? I would also love to do the online program, but worry about the success rate. Do you work full time? I do and have a 17 month old. I get overwhelmed thinking how I will do it all!!!! I have a 4 year degree in the healthcare field, but can't do a BSN program b/c of the timing of classes. TWU offers a PT BSN track, but I was told you cannot have a FT job even w/ the PT program. I was wanting to go to the information session tomorrow evening at Kingwood, but can't now. I remember seeing information about the Quest program, but only during the application period.
