Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

You can CLEP out of sociology. It is one of the easiest CLEPs. Use the REA prep book and http://speedyprep.com/ for a week and that should be enough to pass. Too late for summer school. CLEP is the only way to get the credit quickly.

Awesome idea! :yeah:

Wow!! There are some great scores here. Congrats to all of you. All of you with your great scores are making me soooooo nervous, that mine might not be good enough to get in.:crying2: I'm now totally regretting my decision to not retake the HESI. Oh well. Here's hoping we all make it in.

What is your score? Are you applying to Kingwood? Why are some school's cutoff's (ie North Harris, Montgomery) lower than seems CyFair or Kingwood. I was told by a friend that got in at Montgomery for this Fall that the cut off was 11.3 ish don't know if that was true or not but I know her score was 11.4 something and she got in. Frankly it is crazy that we have to have such super high scores on the HESI I don't feel the reading and math portion really reflect weather a student will do well in nursing. The grades in science pre reqs are more reflective to me of success. That reading portion of the HESI is actually very strange to me, I did well but really it is a measure of your ability to answer the questions how they want you too because many questions had more than one answer that could be considered correct imo. The math section is very straight forward and it is math none of us have probably done since the 8th grade but we should all know it. :) By the way I had to review for the math my 13 year old daughter helped me LOL!

Hello all I have been lurking on this site for awhile. I have applied to Kingwood spring 2011 my score is 11.9132. (missed one on the HESI reading, darn HESI!!) I have taken all my courses at Montgomery so looking to meet others going to Kingwood. Good luck to everyone.

So what tool did you use to study for the HESI, was it difficult? I have been trying to find out what the test consist of, I am freakishly nervous!

Thanks

WOW! There are some super scores since last I've been on here! Congrats to those who have only missed 1 on the HESI...how dare you not get a perfect 12 :p

I'm afraid the 80 students taken at Kingwood are all going to be 11.9s! Truly frightening!

I used the HESI A2 study guide sold on amazon it is blue. I only studied the math and reading section of the book but it is the complete HESI study guide made by the company that produces the test. I wouldn't describe the Reading portion as hard but it is tricky, they want you to answer the questions in a certain way. Hard to describe but the study guide is spot on and details what they are looking for. I studied the math section a chapter at a time then took the practice questions for each section I made 100 on the math portion of the HESI. Again the test isn't hard but don't just show up to take it without reviewing. I reviewed for about 2 weeks prior to taking the exam. Don't just concentrate on the reading portion study for the math it is a tie breaker and all of our scores are so so tight and close to perfect it could come into play for you. Good Luck

My score is 11.5652 and yes, I'm applying to Kingwood. I did my pre-reqs at Montgomery too. Maybe we have met.:) I agree about the HESI having alot of different answers that sound like they could be right. When I took mine I didn't study or anything, I just went and took it. Yeah some of the math questions are so basic. I was really surprised at that.

Well that score sounds really good...I don't know that I would chance a retake with that score. It should be high enough. Like I said my friend that got in at montgomery was advised by the nursing coordinator NOT to retake her HESI and she was only 11.4 something. My real name is Heather I started in the Fall of 09 at Montgomery I was pretty ticked off I couldn't make the cut off for Montgomery in January because I live in the Woodlands. But a drive to kingwood isn't bad and I am on a time schedule to become a RN this can't go on and on, seriously. If for some reason I don't get in because 80 people make a 12 LOL! I am going to go somewhere else and get my BSN. I have only about 4 classes of prereqs for a BSN entrance to like UT but I have a 13 yr old daughter and I am a single mom. I need to take classes close to home and do clinicals close so she can be kept under my watchful eye. I'm onto her teenage sneeky ways! LOL! She cannot be left unsupervised while I am downtown at UT for hours on end! I would have a successful career but a disaster with my child. I feel my daughter is more important. Who did you have for A&P I had Hufford and Dejaraju.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm like you I'm not getting any younger and I need to get started. I have a 14 and 11 year old. And I know what you mean about keeping a watchful eye on your kids. That is really important to me too. I also would have loved to get into Montgomery as it's only about 15 minutes from me, but Kingwood is only about 30 minutes, so not too bad. Yeah, I don't think we had the same classes together. I had Rajan and Sharon. But, hope we get to meet. :)

Yes I hope we meet soon! I feel the scores are like a game of black jack you have to know when to "hit" and when to "stay" I feel with your score you should stay :)

I studied with the Evolve study guide...the company that makes the HESI test.

Anyone who is applying to CyFair, are you hoping to get morning or afternoon classes?
