Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

Looks like everyone on here will be applying with good scores! I'm Going to get some more shots today! Started pharm online class and it has been a disaster!! The new online learning system seems to be the problem, but hopefully I'll make it through what seems to be a very fast paced class covering A LOT of material in a very short time, and on to micro in the fall :)

Gone for a week and there's a bunch of new people on this board! Welcome!!

I just got back from Texas last night, took the HESI on Saturday and got a 95.65% on the reading...ahhh, relief! I had thought that I was applying to Kingwood as #1 but my husband and I both loved the CyFair area!! We're looking at houses in a couple subdivisions that are within 5 minutes of the school which is so exciting because I love how convenient it is!

I called the nursing department earlier to ask how to view my scores and the lady told me that they'd be sending out acceptance letters in mid-october and our orientation would be the 1st or 2nd week of December from 8am-3pm...I know it's still pretty far off but thought I'd pass along the information!!

Bugalove- 11.826 - CyFair

jpinkard -

You can do it! :)

I found out last week that UHV is not going to transfer/accept my 2nd Govt class so I had to BEG to be added to an online class for Summer II and BEG them to let me take 19 hours (I guess that is over the limit). Anyway, got everything straightened out and I find out today that I ordered the wrong book online and have my first quiz this week. Will have to take time off during lunch tomorrow and go up to North Harris and get it tomorrow - on TOP of everything else going on!! I am really stressed with everything else and would just like for something.....anything to go right and smooth and easy!!!!! Just once!!!! :)

Bugalove - where were you all looking at houses? I am only like 5 minutes away from Campus as well. Just on the other side of 290 in Cypress Point. It would be wild if we were to be neighbors!

The area is fantastic - the only drawback to Cypress right now is 290. It will be like 10 years before the construction is to be completed to make the commute to downtown easier. My commute right now to work is almost an hour and I leave my house at 6:10am. If I were to wait until 7am, it would take me over an hour and a half. It's rediculous!

We had looked at Riata Ranch, Stonegate, Townelake, Indian Lakes...and I'm honestly not sure, a couple others! We're heading back down in a couple months to look at places and subdivisions more carefully. Any suggestions you have would be great!

I was actually wondering if we bumped into each other, didn't you take the HESI on Saturday, too? CyFair? What time?

I did hear the commute is a killer but I really have no reason to go into Houston so it doesn't affect me too much right now.

Are you going to continue to work through school?

I haven't taken Micro and won't be able to in the fall either, does anyone know when it has to be completed by?

Yes - I was in line to take it at 10am. - I have red hair. Had on khaki capris and a salmon colored golf shirt. I was so nervous I really wasn't paying attention to anyone but wished I'd known you were there!

I am going to quit my current job when I find out where I am going to go and try to get some part time hours at the hospital I get assigned to. Not really sure how all that is going to work out yet. Just know that I can't work/commute 11 hours a day/5 days a week and go to school as well. Since I am not already in the healthcare field, I am going to either go the CNA route or do something administrative in the hospital so I can get as much exposure as possible.

You don't have to have this completed by the start date of program. It's listed as one of the prereq but as long as you have 27 hours of courses from the list, they don't care which ones; as long as you have at least 27 hours, you will get your 4 poins. CyFair does a block curriculum (which is a little different than the other campuses) and Micro is built into one of the semesters. If you take it beforehand, it just gives you more time to study the other nursing classes during that semester.

Ahh, ok, so you take it the semester it's built in...that makes sense!! I never really understood the difference between block and nonblock...guess I will soon find out! You might have seen me after the test was done...I was wearing a pink sundress and am about as pregnant as a person can be lol. My husband and our 14 month old girl were with me, too! I was also nervous and not really looking around.

I might try and work part time. I've thought of the CNA route but have also thought of just waitressing...which is a lot better money than a CNA but I, also, would love the experience...I guess I'll give it more thought after my little boy arrives!

Actually the block and basic have more to do with how the curriculum is set up. Cy Fair is set up so it goes from one type of curriculum content to the next. The way they described it to us in the info session is that they break everything up by children, family, adult, etc. The other schools call their program Basic Track or Integrated Curriculum and they go set thing up by type of care.....like psych and then they handle all the continuums of service of that one kind of nursing. I have heard from numerous people that it is not harder or easier one way or another. But, I have also heard that the CyFair program is the hardest because of teaching staff expectations. Guess that can be good and bad. Hope this didn't confuse you any more. But, I believe both programs are inflexible as to when you can take things. Everyone is going through at the same speed and in the same classes each semester.

Correct me if I am wrong - anybody?
