Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

Hello everyone! I am a spring 2011 hopefull too. I met with the Kingwood Nursing Program Director today and she did say that they offer the early graduating option and it is for sure a lottery selection based on the number of requests. She also said that they are not offering the online ADN program this semester because of too many problems.

Has anyone taken the HESI yet? If so, any one willing to describe the kind of questions asked in the reading comprehension? Also, my HESI review book does not have any full algebra problems. So, is it safe to say there are no algebra problems? I ask since my HESI review book which is the Evolve book written by the HESI testing people and it only has basic addition, subtraction, division, multiplication of basic numbers, fractions, decimals, metric and standard measuring.

Just trying to get a handle on the reading comprehension & math sections.

thanks.

Brian

jpinkard- I PM'ed you about emailing me that study guide, it sounds really helpful! I just got a book at my local bookstore today to help me brush up on my math.

I live in Indiana and am not moving to Texas until September. I am coming down in 3 weeks to take HESI and to apply...in regards to taking the test can I just go to the school during the day and take it or do I need to set up an appointment? How long would you say it took you to complete it?

I am so envious of all you girls who've already taken it and done so well!

Does anyone know when the acceptance letters would start coming in? I was guessing October?

As I mentioned before I have a study guide that helped me TREMENDOUSLY. The math portion I was rusty on as I haven't used some of it since high school and the reading portion I have a short study guide. The math portion I have covers everything that you will need to know with step by step "how-to" sample questions and answers. I have these saved on my computer and I can email them to you if you would like.

Also, the reading is tricky, but as I said in a previous post, do not OVERTHINK it. It's about choosing the best answer (there may be another "good" answer, but go with your gut).

I thought the HESI was easy (stressful though). I studied the night before and did very well. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I will email those to you! Sorry, I haven't checked my messages. As for the HESI test..you need to print out a hesi testing ticket off the schools website (it should be somewhere in the nursing dept. section) take this with you and go to the business center at the school to pay for the test before going to take it. Find out the testing center hours (it was not by appointment at the Montgomery Campus). You go down and take your testing ticket with your receipt attached, sign in, and when a computer is available someone will take you in and you can start your test. My test was untimed but I believe once you go to the next question you CANNOT return to any other questions prior. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to complete.

bugalove-

here's the link to instuctions for HESI Test. It says some testing centers require a reservation, some do not. This should be helpful :)

HESI Test

Bugalove - I know at the Cy-Fair campus once you go to the business office and pay for your test you can walk right on over to the assesment center and take it. No appointment needed. I am not sure how it is done on other campus's though.

I checked back at last year's Spring 2010 thread and it looks like they started getting their acceptance letters October 15th. I think the application period ended a little later though so hopefully we will get them around then (or sooner!!)

jpinkard - Thanks again for those study guides! They look really helpful! Hopefully on top of all the other ones I have I will be able to get through the HESI with no problems. :)

You ready?!?! Only two more weeks until applications open!!! I really wish I didn't have to wait until the last minute to apply.

oh, michelle! That stinks, but maybe it's better and you won't have to worry about selling it back?! Hey, then you can just cut-and-paste into our homework! And at least it was under $10 :) Sounds like a better deal to me.

bugalove - You just go into the Kingwood campus and pay the office your $25 before you go into the testing room. You have to be there before 1pm, I think. I went in about 11:30am and I believe it's M-TH ONLY (8am-1pm). I think they will take people at 1pm but no later. I finished about 1:30pm but I also stretched and stared at the wall and everyone else in the computer lab to uncross my eyes and let my brain relax for a couple minutes - or 20:lol2: Good Luck!

Brian - I would go to the campus library and check out the HESI review and make copies (about $5) and that will give you all of the math that you need to know. As far as the reading...look at some previous posts for links to study guides. There really is no way, in my opinion, to study for the reading part. Just don't look to deep into the answers. Some of the answers are exactly the same, just worded differently and can be confusing.

jpinkard - Thanks for the info...that didn't take long for a response! I don't like the lottery battle either. Maybe we'll get a lucky draw. Did she say that our course work would be more if we opted for the summer graduation? Oh, and is that something you decide at the beginning? The lottery is at the beginning of being admitted?

bugalove - sorry, I was assuming you were going to apply for the Kingwood campus. That info I wrote was for the Kingwood campus.

jpinkard,

I would love a copy of your study guide. Can't PM supposedly because I haven't posted on here 15 times. So, can you please just email to [email protected]. I am going to need all the help I can get.

thanks again,

Kim

kimberly- is your email @mail.com or gmail.com? wasn't sure if that was typo

bugalove- i didn't get your PM what is your email or you can sent me an email at [email protected]

She didn't say, but I'm assuming whatever your course load would be for the last "Fall" semester would be the same for the "summer" if your LUCKY enough to get your name picked! I don't know when you place your name but I don't know why someone wouldn't want to finish early....I wonder how many spots they choose...she just said however many are available!

Hmmm  Well, maybe they can answer that in the information meeting?

Does anyone know if the Kingwood program has a forum on here? For the people who are already in the program? I would like to read some of their thoughts on how their life/school is going for them...and if they're still alive! :D
