Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.
I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?
kyla.ann- my friend said she got it from a HESi study guide in the library at Montgomery Campus. It doesn't have a title on what I have. Its got a bunch of math questions, samples, and step by step on how to solve problems, as well as the answer in the back. If you want I can email it to you. I am not good at math, but I merely brushed up with the study guide and did well
Michelle - Um, I got the one that had these authors: Berdell R. Funke, Christine L. Case, Gerard J. Tortora -9th ed.And this is what she responded to me when I asked her what we were going to use: "The notes for this class are fully online. You can chose any Micro textbook. See if you can get an old version of Microbiology by Tortora & Tortora."
I have no idea why she wrote "Tortora & Tortora."
thanks. i got an email that said the course uses the other one i mentioned, but she prefers the tortora book. i found the 10th edition on ebay for super cheap! under $10! new. crazy. i guess i will get the 10th edition. hey, you and i have the exact same score, ha!! too funny.
Yay, michelle! Wow, glad you found the 10th ed so cheap! I just wanted to have the one she suggested with all of the fill-in-the-blank homework we have to do.
I hope our scores get us in...I just can't believe almost 600 people apply and 80 are taken. Let's keep our fingers crossed...otherwise I am going to be stressing that I need the full 12pts
Jennifer, I think we are in a good spot with our score especially since the cut off is typically around 11.4 something......but you never know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't apply until we are done w/ the micro course b/c I need those four points!
I sure hope everything is ok w/ this book..it says it is brand new, 10th edition, 925 pages, free shipping and only $8.95. ??????????? crazy!
michelle - I sure hope so, but I won't be satisfied until I see a letter in my mailbox. I will be stalking.
I can't believe you got such a good deal on the book! When I was looking a few months ago, the prices for that edition were still in the 60s-100s. Ridiculous. But I'm sure the book is fine...mine was described as "used with highlighting" and it's in perfect condition.
I finally had received an email response from the Kingwood Pharm prof and she didn't let me know who was teaching the fall night class. I had posted something earlier about the time and lab time. It shows the lecture time as 7-9, but the lab is tba. I wonder what the lab time will be? 5-7pm?
My friend was telling me that in the Kingwood Nursing program you are able to finish your last semester in the Summer rather than waiting until December to graduate. Essentially this would mean you can complete the program in about a year in a half. It makes sense, but can anyone confirm if this is true?

I think the TBA part means that it is online.......i think we will only be going to class from 7-9. but i really am not sure.
editing...well, maybe i am wrong since the other "hybrid classes" show a longer class time....hmmm............did she say if we will be meeting weekly?

i have no idea, but that sounds nice!!! that means i can have baby #2 earlier then i thought i'm planning on going to the info session next month and was going to ask questions about the scheduling of classes.......it would be great to be done earlier as long as we don't have to double up on classes!
Ok, I emailed the Kingwood Nursing department and this is what she said regarding completing the program in summer:
"Yes, that would be an option. I am not exactly sure how it is decided if a student is eligible for the summer program. I will forward your email to our director for more information."
So hopefully I will hear something back soon and will let y'all know our options! :) Wouldn't that be great to finish in Summer!!
Michelle - she didn't say anything other than which book she used for her class and she didn't address who was scheduled to be the prof for the class. I don't know about that class since it is meeting every tuesday. The NH one I am registered in doesn't meet at all until exam days (4 unit exams, 4 math exams - which I think are the same day) this is according to the summer syllabus she sent me. I would like to know more about the kingwood class before I switch...maybe they can address that in the Info session?
jpinkard - PLEASE tell us when you hear from the nursing director...I would love to be done in the summer.
In regards to finishing the nursing program in the summer I have good news and bad news!
this is what the director said regarding it:
"This is correct; however it is not a guarantee. The selection is "lottery" style. All interested in graduating in summer vs fall place their names and then we pick the number of available spots..."
EEH! Well the possibility of finishing a semester early is fantastic...not too happy about being "lottery" style though

umm, so it was an e-book, ha! i obviously didn't read all of the description. i got an email just now saying it was available for download. oh well, super cheap for a short class and i can read at work a lot easier w/ ebooks!!! so now we know how i found such a good deal!

Is it the West Coast U. one? I have that one but wondered if there were any others.
I am pretty comfortable with the reading part, the math is what I am worried about. I know they don't use that score but you still have to pass with a 70. Looking over this stuff I realized how much I have forgotten and how much I really suck at math.
I should probably stop spending so much time on here and start studying for the HESI. LOL!
