Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

bugalove - which campus did you sign up for in Pharm? And is it hard??! I'm taking it in the fall and it's a hybrid class at NHarris. The prof sent me the summer syllabus and it seemed like A LOT of info in little time...is it manageable?

In my post about CPR certification above, I put "American Heart Assciation"; I meant "American Red Cross". sorry.

I signed up for a CPR class next Saturday the 26th from 9-11:30 am. I am taking it at Instruction by Masters (www.inbymas.com) it was $40 if you pay cash or $45 if you pay by credit card. I looked back on some previous threads and a few people mentioned this class and said it was pretty good.

Kyla.ann - is that CPR class only on the Saturday for 2 1/2 hours or do you have to go back for another Saturday?

I just got back from the Information Session at Cy-Fair. For those that were wondering, I asked about the Pharm class. They will not let you take Pharm 1301 until you are accepted into their program however, they WILL accept the Pharm from any other campus (sister campus as they call it). They said they do not allow you to take their Pharm because they feel you need some nursing background to be successful in the course.

It's that day only. You get your card at the end of the class once you take your written and skills test. It is the BLS - HCP class certified by the American Heart Association.

Thank you...I am going to sign up for the class as well!

When are you going to take it? So, I officially signed up for the CE micro course and I'm still signed up for Lifespan at the same time. I'm a bit stressed about that as I feel like I am at a point where I'm all caught up in my work and have some downtime (first time all year!-I actually watched a movie last night and did NO school work). I could sign up for Lifespan w/ the professor you took at the end of the year, but I will also be in Pharm. Still going back and forth with that one.........................

Very curious about your pharm class, bugalove!

kyla.ann, yay for having a family vacation! If you don't mind me asking, how many kids do you have and how old are they? I have a 17month old and struggle everyday if I'm making the right choice at the right time. :o

Hey everyone! Application period is getting closer! I'm so excited. I'm trying to wrap up some last minute things. I went to get some shots this morning. For those of you in need of your immunizations and in the Spring/Woodlands/Conroe area you can go to the UTMB clinic in Conroe off of 105. They are appointment only UNLESS you are one of the first 10 walk-ins (today they only took five though). The doors open at 7:30 but I arrived at 7 and stood outside the door to make sure to get a spot (its the middle door). People line up pretty quickly so I'd suggest arriving early. They don't do Vaccines on Wednesday. They will only be in this location through the end of this month, I will post new location and address closer to when they move. Anyway, they do all the vaccines you need for only $10 fee (this is total, not per shot). So today I paid $10 for 4 shots! Not bad. They also do the TB Skin test, but you have to come back within 48-72 hours to have results read so I couldn't do that today. BTW they gave me the first shot to the HEP series and I'm getting another one in a month so it's a bit faster. Hope this helps! :)

michelle - I just registered for the CPR class on June 26 (9am-11:30am) with Instruction by Masters (www.inbymas.com) like kyla.ann suggested.

Maybe you could get away for a few hours...it's down by westheimer/beltway, kinda far for me but I'd rather get it over in under 3hrs than waste a whole day on it. It's $40 at the door.

I saw that the CE micro class had another addition! Yay, that means the class will go! Do you mean you will sign up for Lifespan in the Fall with the "beach lady?" I would definitely wait for her class in the Fall if you're debating whether to do it this summer. I'm telling you, she is worth it and it is definitely stress free (I had a 100avg, no-brainer)...you could do your discussions at work like I did (literally only takes about an hour or less to do the 10 discussions.) Then you could have a 'stress-free' summer other than Micro. I would look for the book on ebay, I found mine for $6. I don't know if you can name books on here, but I would email her since you are already in her A&P class. Are you done with that? I can't remember.

Yes, Bugalove...do tell on Pharm, we're all dying to know what to expect AND details!!

I have two girls. My oldest is 6-1/2 and my youngest is 21 months. I go through the same internal conflicts myself. Should I really be doing this now? Am I going to regret missing out on them growing up for two years? Am I going to be able to handle the stress of NS along with being a mother? I currently work full time (will be putting in my notice next week AAHHH!!) and along with all of that, I worry about how we are going to make it financially with me being out of work and if my kids are going to suffer because of this choice. I just have to keep telling myself, it is only 2 years, it might be the hardest 2 years of my life, but it is only 2 years. The struggles will be worth it once I am finished. Plus, my 6 year old is super excited that her mom is in school too (she just graduated Kindergarten) so it helps to know that she is proud of me. :)

maybe i will switch to the fall lifespan class. it is an 8 week class and will be at the end of the semester and i will be in pharm. i think i can manage that. ahhh...i was really hoping to only take 1 class this fall!!!

Ok, so we have the same thoughts, ha! Unfortunately, I can't quit my job. :crying2: So, I will be working full-time also. congrats on being able to put your notice in soon! My only other issue is postponing #2 until after the program. I'm ok with it, but just wonder why I'm putting my family on hold for this.................ahhhh! I'm considering applying for the online program Kingwood offers whenever it opens, but I know I would do better in a lecture setting. The online classes would be better for the family though. decisions decisions. It is super cute that your kindergartener is excited for you!!!

Michelle - you can DEFINITELY manage the Lifespan class with Beach Lady! And especially since it's only an 8wk class. You won't even remember you're in the class! The 2 exams are open book (and she gives you a review sheet that is exactly the 25 questions) and the 2pg paper is something I could have written in the 3rd grade (took me right at an hour to write). I don't think you will regret waiting to take her class. If you do...you can knock me across the head! Do you think you can do the CPR class?

I'm with both of ya'll on kids and school. I feel like I will be out of the loop and have so much guilt. I feel like I should have done this in my early 20s.
