Lone Star Spring 2020 ADN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

From reading everyone that got into Lone Star nursing programs I hypothesized one very important point. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you get anything less than A's in English and A&P there is NO chance of admission.

The only instance I calculated a chance is a "B" in English, an "A" in A&P and a perfect 100% on the HESI. Other than that, A's in your classes with a minimum 88% on the exam is my observed formula for entrance.

I see why so many (myself included) get so worked up about the HESI. Anyone else taking the test next week at a Lone Star?

If anyone has taken A&P at a Lone Star over a summer session, how did you find attaining an A over the six-week period? Also, if anyone wants to part with a lab book...(?)

Could you send me your notes for the hesi ?

Hahahaha ? that’s a good cause LOL ! Tell me ,how are you ? I live 5 miles from Cy fair ,but keep hear scary stories about our local program :from disrespect to student to taught and not helpful teachers . So I decided to drive and do Tomball or Montgomery

Yes, the professors are pretty tough when it comes to exams. I think a couple of them just want us to be prepared for the NCLEX so they make their own questions and sometimes they can be contraindicative of what we learned from the book. Most of the time they will give us points back if a good amount of us miss one or a good portion of us chose a different answer. I will say if I have the change to go back I would’ve drove to Kingwood. I have a friend at kingwood and she said she’s only lost 4 in her cohort and they were due to absences or life issues. Since January at CF my cohort went from 47 (because 3 people didn’t come to orientation) down to about 17 (I think) and they’re due to failing. I would say you made a good choice driving to Montgomery. I haven’t heard much about Tomball but my suggestion is Montgomery or kingwood

That’s exactly what a friend of mine told me . She said I would drive 3 hours so she could be in better mental health from school !! I am still deciding between Montgomery or Tomball! I also never heard anything about them before ,but recently met some girls who are from there and they say it’s amazing ! I checked 2018 NCLEX passing rate and Tomball has the highest at 97%! ,when mongomery and Kingwood around 94. But I would without a doubt would go to Kingwood but they don’t take people for fall :(( and I don’t wanna wait one semester. What concerns me is the drive to mount Montgomery! It’s around 30 miles (45min with no trafic) . Tomball is only 10 miles away from me

Yes I hope so ? how long did you have to wait before they sent out the acceptance email/ letter?

And honestly I just studied a lot haha I scored a high 90 in every subject except A&P (92%: weakest subject ?) I searched up a lot of quizlets related to HESI as well. Then I would sit and write down every question and answer on paper and would rewrite those questions ? I made lots of notes from the Elsevier Ed 4 book. I bought the full version of the HESI A2 app on my phone to study whenever I’m free as well. I studied them about a good two months.

I didn’t bother to study math because it’s my strongest subject. However, it took me almost 55 mins to completed that section. but I got 100% on it so I was very happy. CT portion I got a score of 940.

I finished the exam in 2 hours 10 mins or something like that so it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I was super stressed out Because it was my first time taking it and I didn’t know what to expect but I walked out feeling relieved ? I’m just the type to get super stressed out ever any kind of testing haha

if anyone ever needs notes or anything, please feel free to pm me ?

---I am going to pm you, I plan to take the HESI in March and possibly a second time in May if needed. Would you mind sharing your notes?

Hopefully someone can answer this if they still check in on this thread ? but is nursing application based on first come first serve (like the sooner you apply before deadline)? Like if someone applies sooner do they have a better chance? (Only if their scoring is where it needs to be)

No! You can apply on the last day and still get in. They base it off of scores only. No first come first serve basis.

Nope! Not a first come first serve, it’s strictly a point based system. I will say though, the sooner you apply the better. If there is something wrong with the application the department will reach out to you to correct it. If you wait till last minute they usually don’t.

No. The application period closes and a computer generates the scores and the schools divide up placement. It doesn’t matter when you get your application in as long as you get it in by the deadline.
