Lone Star Spring 2020 ADN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

From reading everyone that got into Lone Star nursing programs I hypothesized one very important point. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you get anything less than A's in English and A&P there is NO chance of admission.

The only instance I calculated a chance is a "B" in English, an "A" in A&P and a perfect 100% on the HESI. Other than that, A's in your classes with a minimum 88% on the exam is my observed formula for entrance.

I see why so many (myself included) get so worked up about the HESI. Anyone else taking the test next week at a Lone Star?

If anyone has taken A&P at a Lone Star over a summer session, how did you find attaining an A over the six-week period? Also, if anyone wants to part with a lab book...(?)

Not true. I made a B in English and A's the rest of the pre reqs and I got into Lonestar.... I will be done May 2020! You might not be able to get into Cyfair or Tomball but you can get into the other campuses.

Have you heard anything about Tomball program ? Is it good one ? Lots of amazing reviews on Montgomery and Kingwood ,but non for Tomball !

...So I'm N4 semester at NH but I know 2 students in N4 from Tomball and when we compare experiences- Tomball seems more "strict" with things ....but that was my personal observation when talking to them....I wouldn't let that stop me from going there if you really want to.

I am 5 miles from Cy fair and keep hearing horrible reviews from people ,so i am trying to pick next nearest campus near me ! I would love to go to Montgomery but it’s 40 min drive (30 miles) and Tomball is 20 miles . It’s going to be a lot of time driving esp in the mornings if I have to go to collage 4 days per week . I have two kids ,morning are the busiest time for me before all of them go to school ? but I. General it’s a good program with god teachers ?

As a previous nursing student in the Cyfair Program i would say go there. Is it difficult? yes. Is it disorganized? yes but what program at lonestar isnt lol. It is doable!! It is fast paced so be ready to study. The first semester you will be going to classes more in the week but it goes down after that. I would have graduated if I had not slacked off and got too comfortable honestly. Also studying the material to actually KNOW the material not to just pass the exams.

So you failed one semester ? Def Cy fair is the most convenient location for me , I am at no rush , I have two small children so I wanna somewhat live life ??? what are you doing right now ? You have to reapply ?

So all honesty out there lol I failed Maternity with a 74.4 and they allowed me to retake it and I did. (you are allowed to retake one class after your first semester). Then I failed my last class Medsurg 3 and that was it. I had to start over. So you really won't have a life in any nursing program haha I am working and pregnant and I will reapply for Fall semester at Cyfair.

A lot of people I was with in the program who did not graduate or had to retake a class and did end up graduating and even students in the program right now tell me not to apply to Cyfair. But here are my thoughts on that:

Every program is difficult. It is not a walk in the park. You HAVE to study every day and keep up with everything. Study to KNOW the material not to just pass the exam. Utilize your resources and whatever helps you study. Yes Cyfair can be disorganized so you have to be patient with them but do not be afraid to email whoever you need to to get your answers. The teachers are amazing! I NEVER had an issue with a teacher. You will learn each one has their own teaching methods and you might not agree with them but just roll with it. Things you might want to have in class: recorder (to record the class), computer (if you want to type on the powerpoints they send to us), your book (if you want to highlight in your book instead), snack and water.

Cyfair is strict but with things like being on time, not skipping class unless you emailed your instructor, not giving medications or doing skills without your instructor present. Things like that.

I hope that helps!

I will be attending the ADN program at Kingwood starting next month. I will only have to commute to class twice per week and clinical on Saturday, I also work full time. If if makes any difference, I live in Pearland and the commute is almost an hour. But only having to make the drive in traffic twice a week is not a big deal considering the flexibility of program. They have options for either day or evening class and I chose evening.

I picked the campus that was closest and easiest to get to from my house- to cut out the stressor of traffic and reduce the chances of being late on an exam day etc.. (trust me, you're not going to need any extra stress in nursing school..you're already going to be stressing about demonstrating your lab skills to your instructors in N1 and N2-you'll have to do this and this is some serious stuff). Same thing when picking clinical..don't pick a clinical site that is 50 miles from home- If you are more than 15 minutes late to clinical you get sent home..if that happens twice you're out of the program because you can't miss more than one clinical day. In the end, WE ALL take the same NCLEX regardless of which campus you went to. Regardless of where you end up....get ready to study like you never have before.

yall just remember at CYFAIR you DO NOT pick your clinical sites. Whatever they give you is what you take.

It’s a great point ! But I have heard that Cy fair have all clinical sites far from here ,is that true? Like downtown !

Is anyone familiar with the program at North Harris? I’ve heard it’s easier and you’re not ALWAYS consumed in books. Some people still maintain an active social life while working full time and working the program. Can anyone give any insight?

A friend of mine just graduated from Kingwood and it’s amazing that they put lecture and lab together so it’s only 2 days plus clinical ,instead of driving 4-5 times per week !! Congrats ?? Kingwood is amazing program ! I keep hear awesome ?? reviews about them !
