Lone Star Fall 2020

Published

It may be early but around this time, those applying to Fall 2020 are engulfed in an A&P course trying for the grades needed. Collaboration and early encouragement can only help. Fall seems to be the large cycle and a lot have had the same instructors. Some of us could even be sitting by each other in class and not know.

I know we cannot say who we are taking. I'm in A&P 1 at Tomball in a hybrid course. If I can be of any help I will do so. I have a study guide for A&P that's about 90 pages. In addition, I have a pdf of one of the books (I think it's Marieb).

Goodxluck in class everyone and hope to see you in nursing school in the Fall!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I think we'll still get in, just not at our first or second choice ?

I’m still holding onto hope that 7.5 and above will be alright since last application 7.3 was the lowest they accepted. I sure hope it didn’t jump to 7.6 and above. The waiting is excruciating!

I know for sure the Spring app period is like that. Which is why I kind of don't want to wait until the Spring to apply. This Spring application period 7.6 seems like it was the cut off to be accepted to Kingwood and 7.5 to accepted to Cyfair without being put on the alternate list.

They can’t apply if they haven’t taken the HESI tho which I’ve heard is wait listed at this point. Although I’m not sure how the proctor situation works or if they can fit In more people using a proctor. I would apply to different schools but they seem to all require different courses/exams. I haven’t taken the TEAS and I haven’t taken pharm yet so I can’t even apply to the majority of them. Lone Star has the easiest pre-reqs but I feel like more nursing schools use TEAS instead of the HESI.

If they were denied to UT for Summer and fall I’m sure those applications applied to lonestar . UT and UTMB take HESI exam. Plus other schools in the Houston area. Exactly why I said I’m sure there where more people that’s going to apply plus the application period has been opened for an additional 2 months...

Are you wondering about the Spring application? The basic track for Cy-Fair and Kingwood are opening June 2 through August 7, according to the site. It’s kind of crazy that the Fall app deadline got pushed back to June 12. I suppose that means from June 2 to June 12 there will be two applications open? Curious about that overlap.

My condolences for your circumstances. You really seem enthusiastic to get the program started. For the record, your score at 7.77 is KILLER. Are you able to float that HESI score to Spring?

In truth, this process is stressful and convoluted enough WITHOUT a pandemic. Maybe waiting until Spring would give you a huge advantage, while the program works out the inevitable kinks that’ll come about in Fall, if we’re STILL stuck online. I hope you can find a silver lining!

Oh yes! I meant the Spring application ?

I took the HESI in January, and I believe it’s good for 12 months - so I know the score will be good for me to apply for Spring. Just super nervous!!

I completely agree. It’s already stressful as it is without the pandemic. Thank you so much for your response and helpful words!

Yeah Fall isn't looking too bright for me either. I'm torn between starting in the Fall or just waiting until Spring. If they offer the fall semester online, I will go ahead and start and then possibly transfer to Kingwood in the Spring. I'll be working Monday-Friday for the most part so I'm really not able to go in person unless I go to class after work and clinicals on Saturdays. Hence, why I'm leaning toward applying to Kingwood. You have an awesome score so you'll have no problem getting accepted!

Yes! I’m really worried about how everything is going to turn out. Spring is the best option since I know I have someone to supervise my kids guaranteed (my mom who was recently diagnosed with glaucoma but is retiring this year!)

I really hope I get in! Thank you so much for your supportive words! It’s really nice to be able to communicate with people who understand and are so supportive!

I just wanted to share that this extension of the deadline to June 12 has been an advantage for some, including me... although I know not everyone here will feel the same way. I am one of a few people in my May Minimester English class that are specifically there in order to raise our scores for fall admission. I realized too late in January exactly how this whole points system worked, and it was too late then to change anything. I had a B for the class they counted as English from my previous school, from like 10 years ago ? (I hadn't paid attention because for a while I wasn't considering LSC)

My goal is Montgomery for this fall. With an A in English, my score will be go from a 7.4 to a 7.9. I confirmed with the admissions office they will withdraw my application so I can reapply before the deadline, once my new English grade is in after the class ends May 31.

I hope everyone has been doing OK through this whole thing, good luck to everyone and I hope we get to meet in class this fall!

WOW! that’s weird. Last month I asked if I could retake HESI for a better score since it’s going to be way more competitive and they said once you submit an application it’s final.

I would question them then. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that they are allowing some people to improve their scores and not others. If I were you I would ask for the official policy.

Yeah because the competition went up tremendously due to the deadline being extended. I would like to withdraw my app, retake the HESI, and submit an app with a higher score. They should allow anyone who wants to do that the opportunity to do so.

I agree, if there is a standard of practice in place, everyone should be held to it. If they are deciding to make changes to that standard, everyone should be made aware of it. Let me know what they say girl, good luck.

100% if others get the opportunity to raise their score with retaking classes/retaking the HESI then applicants who’ve submitted their application should be able to do so. When we applied in January we had NO idea that the deadline would be extended or it would get this bad. I would 100% retake the HESI again if given the opportunity to do so.

Same here! I just sent an email to cyfair campus because everyone should have had the same opportunity.
