Lone Star Fall 2012 ADN Applicants

Published

I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!

Thanks for that e mail address also one of the costs associated with the nursing program I am concerned about is insurance. I recently realized that that was not brought up during the north Harris orientation, I know we are required to have and health insurance, does anyone know anything about these insurances I am particularly interested in the group health insurance offered by the nursing program. But I know nothing about it such as when we can get it and the cost...

I don't know about NH, but at Moco we aren't required to have insurance because none of our clinical sites require it. And our is covered by the college.

WOW! did anyone hear about UHV now offering classes at a Lone Star campus to earn a BSN? No joke here is the link University of Houston-Victoria

So now I am planning on taking a sophomore philosophy couse along with chem next summer. That means that I will have to file an appeal prior to my last semester for going over the max timeframe for Financial Aid.

When I was an alternate for the cy-fair program last application period, I purchased the health insurance from the AHP. It was less than $300. They do not have a policy available for purchase that covers school year 2013-2013 as of yet. I called AHP and was informed that the policy for that coverage period will be available come mid-July. If you are going that route, I suggest that you contact the nursing dept. director at your campus and inform them that you will be purchasing that policy so there are not any delays in processing you file that might render you ineligible for the program. There are moutains of paperwork that the nursing director has to have complete and submitted for each individual to the clinical locations before they accept anyone to their facility.

Yeah, they told us about it at orientation. It's cheaper and right down the street from me which I love, but there's no early admission. You have to graduate and pass the NCLEX before you apply, so we miss the summer 14 app deadline and have to wait for Spring 15 admission. I have all the prereqs for both done once I'm finished with statistics, so I guess I'll just decide when the time comes! I like that UT has the 100% online choice , too...

Oh, and I ALSO like that you can take up to 11 graduate hours at UT during your BSN if you score high on your GRE... So now that I'm thinking about it, I'll probably go for them :p

Blondie12,

Have you bought the books we need for the summer course? Other campuses have given out reading assignments, we did not receive any reading assignments yet!?! During orientation I heard mention of an email. Have you received any such email from anyone? I have been browsing through the fundamentals book, my neck is sore from reading and my eyeballs feel like they want to pop out, lol I looked up past syllabi for the courses we were assigned. I have begun to read some of the topics listed, maybe this will be to my advantage.

Would it have been possible for the authors of our 'Fundamentals' book to get the type any smaller? I think I need an eye exam. And don't feel bad, Stephalump. I'm not absorbing much of it, either, just trying to slog my way through.

Oh, I know!!!! I have to keep the book right in front of my nose!

How far have you gotten? I had this great 2 chapter a week plan. I'm following more like a half a chapter a week plan right now.

I think the text is so small in order to prepare us for reading drug insert guides in the future, lol

I'm just starting chapter 6 today. I'm trying to do a chapter a day, but that's only because I'm not taking any other classes at the moment. I know that no matter what I do, most of it will have oozed out of my brain before class starts. :( How do you like all the acronyms we're going to have to learn? I feel like I'm working for the government!

Yeah I bought all of the books. Yeah we didn't get any assignment that I know of...and I have not received any email either. I feel that she definitely left some things out in the orientation. She seemed to think we were running over time because the clock was an hour ahead hahaha. I'm sure any amount of reading will be to your advantage though. I'm more worried about my pharm class right now so I haven't done more than flip through my new books. Where did you find past syllabi?

@blondie12

when you sign in to mylonestar on the left above all the options there is a search box, i use the terms "syllabus search" and hit enter. It kicks to another screen where you hit the search button. An option will come up for you to click on. Then i change from "First name" to "course" then enter RNSG a list then appears. It is a good idea to look at your course schedule and know all the names of the Tomball instructors, this will help you find the correct syllabus. Good luck!
