Hi there!!!! So I have been reading the "Hopefuls" forums from previous years and decided that it is time to start our own. I believe that this is a great way to support each other and compare our HESI scores. So here we come, all of the Lone Star students who are planning on applying for the ADN program please share your scores. I am applying to Kingwood for the spring semester 2017. My HESI score is 7.45 and I am a little bit worried that this could be not enough.
@chitxgirl When you say to go in & write the conversions down, do you mean the chart that is inside of the HESI study book...page 36? I thought I was set as far as conversions go but I downloaded pocket prep & it is full of random (almost chemistry) like conversions...which if I had to take the chemistry portion of the HESI, I'd totally study but WOW!
Thank you James for the positive energy. I have worked so hard. I have the math chart MEMORIZED! My friends just scared me as they all failed the math portion. I thought it was basic, like the HESI book. I think I'll be okay. Truthfully I worry about grammar! SO easy yet SO specific! I get good scores on Pocket prep and on the practice exams for grammar but I don't know exactly why I chose the right answers besides them "looking right" or making sense. I may be overthinking this.
You do need to turn in evidence of a positive Hep B titer with your application. Other than that, once you've been accepted they will send you a to-do list that takes a few months to complete.
To pay for your HESI you need to go to the Bursar Office on campus and print your HESI testing ticket and take it to them. They'll look up your account and then you pay them. You'll need to take the receipt showing you paid with you to the testing center, that way they can start your HESI promptly.
Oh dear my score is 7.15 I was afraid that the cut off was much higher. I made an A in A&P and a B in English. My culmative HESI score was 88.4%. I am thinking of retaking my English so it can bump me up to a 7.5 hopefully and retaking my HESI as well.
As far as the HESI I found the A&P part most challenging. The math was identical to the math in the review book. I was told to memorize all sorts of conversions which is very useful but the ones I came across my exam were from the table in the book.
Good luck to everyone!! I'm glad I came across this page with other fellow students applying for the program. It was very helpful. I finished all my BSN prerequisites but I am looking into doing the ADN program with Lonestar. Then after doing the BSN program with a school of choice. At least I'll have the prereqs out of the way í ½í¸
I read the Spring 2016 thread and saw that someone got accepted at Kingwood with a 7.3. There was one person on the Fall 2016 thread who applied to Kingwood with a 7.74 but never came back to say if she was accepted or not. The info i retained though is that there tends to be more applicants in the Fall because almost all the campuses are accepting students. kingwood seems to be the hardest to get into so an influx in applications may explain why their cut off was at 7.6. Hopefully , this is not the case for Spring 2017... Keeping my fingers crossed.....
Ok, I think I may be still a bit confused as far as the titers go. I had the titers drawn for the MMR, Hep B, Varicella and TB. It showed I did not have immunity for Hep B (it does say "QN" on the results, so I hope this is right). I am doing the fast track Hep B - is it this paper showing that I started the series, is what I'll need to submit?
Thanks so much, you've been very helpful!
LizFrank,
When I applied the titer was not required so I'm not entirely sure. It does say to provide evidence of a positive quantitative titer, which basically means you need to be immune already (that's what I'm interpreting).
You could turn in the documentation that you've started a fast track, but I would contact the school first and ask. If you are applying to Kingwood, I would contact Valerie in the nursing department.
@LizFrank. Depending on the test run, generally any value greater than 9.9 is consistent with immunity. Make sure the test you are having run is a Quantitative one and not a Qualitative one. Quantitative tests report the specific number of anitbodies circulating in the blood. If you are not yet immune to Hepatitis B, get with your primary care provider and explain to them the situation and it is up to them to decide whether or not to fast-track the Hepatitis B 3 - series. As per my doctor, she said it generally takes two series of the vaccinations to confer full immunity, at which after, the third shot is generally a booster that confers immunity for a longer period of time.

zullyzoo,
Relax and do your best. I studied the HESI book and did well. I found A&P quizzes online and did those too. The main scores that are factored into your 8-point score is reading I believe. You'll do great. Be confident!
For those of you concerned with your score, that was for that application pool. So it's quite apparent there were a lot of smarty pants in that group. Doesn't mean it will be the same for this group. It fluctuates with EVERY pool. Be confident and hopeful! There are usually around 200-300 applicants. If you are in the upper tiers of scores, I wouldn't worry!
