2017 Lone Star ADN Hopefuls

Published

Hi there!!!! So I have been reading the "Hopefuls" forums from previous years and decided that it is time to start our own. I believe that this is a great way to support each other and compare our HESI scores. So here we come, all of the Lone Star students who are planning on applying for the ADN program please share your scores. I am applying to Kingwood for the spring semester 2017. My HESI score is 7.45 and I am a little bit worried that this could be not enough. :sorry:

Hello. Can someone please help me? Is the required GPA (2.5) just based on the prerequisites required(English 1301 and A and P 1) or also on the GPA for ALL college courses (cummulative) ever taken? I tried calling the nursing department, but no one, once they answer, has clarified this for me. Thank you

I think in the past when they were still using the 12 point system, it was based on the cumulative average of the list of suggested courses on the score sheet. The score sheet is now out of eight points and it does not specifically state that and instead, I believe focuses on your average from the two required courses for admission

-directly from the Lone Star College website it says this under the "additional nursing program requirements tab"

  1. Complete the following courses with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or higher: BIOL 2401 and ENGL 1301. (BIOL 2401 is required to meet the admission criteria; however, the highest grade in BIOL 2401 or 2402 will be used for calculation of GPA).

Hope this helps first lady!!!

Popism123,

Yes they have changed that up. All of the courses that were required in the past are still needed for BSN degrees.

If you have any other questions at all feel free to ask :-)

Thank you for such a prompt response. I saw the same thing one the website and read it over and over again. Every time I tried to start my application, it stated that my GPA did not meet the requirements. Which was so not true. I called the nursing department several times and no one answered. I finally emailed someone there and they fixed it!!! I'm am soooooooo excited. My points came up to 7.64 for both Lvn at Tomball and ADN at cy-fair and kingwood. Will be applying soon. I hope I get accepted.

Hello everyone! I wanted to go ahead and join the group. I'm currently on the alternate list still for the montgomery and tomball location. As a backup plan I'm currently retaking english to hopefully go from a B to an A to raise my score to apply for the spring for both kingwood and cyfair. My score will be 7.41...hopefully that gets me in. Good luck to everyone!

So I had to retake my A&P for that A during this past Summer I session and I got the A, finally! I take the HESI in 2 weeks, so wish me luck! I will be applying for the Basic Track at Kingwood, so I hope my score is worthy! :)

I am confused. So I will be taking the HESI September 1st. Is there any official application for Kingwood/ Cyfair that I should be filling out? Because Lone star has my transcripts already but I feel as though there is something I should be doing? (aside from studying)

@zullyzoo

You complete the HESI and have the scores posted into Lone Stars system. At this point, you can apply online via a link on the nursing requirements page where it says "Nursing Basic Track" " apply". Make sure all your classes are posted into the Lone Star system otherwise, the portal will not open for you and will not let you apply. Then, you must submit the required documents, along with a printed application to the Lone Star Nursing Department of your first-choice.

Try checking out this tab for additional information.

Additional Nursing Program Requirements

I will be taking the HESI September 1st because I am out of town. I feel confident but I wanted to ask- How did y'all prepare for the math conversions? Would memorizing the chart on page 36 of the Elservier book be enough? I don't want to over study.

Yes that would be enough. Abt 80% of the questions on the math section was conversions. There was also ratios. I probably had 1 or 2 questions on military time and basic stuff like addition, subtraction, etc. I did that and made a 96. And i don't like math lol

Good deal. How was the a&p section? I literally have 100 flashcards of all the info in the anatomy section. It seems very basic.
